Older Mosler 2 Door safe.

Been drilled I’m assuming and had a digital lock installed.

Would be a second safe as mine is filling up. Interior is bare, would put some shelves in it and maybe store ammo from my current safe or some long guns.


Any clear signs to avoid it. Not gonna pay the $500 they are asking for it but I can likely get em lower, I’m thinking $250 tops.

Bet it would make a good second safe for ammo, spare mags, etc.

If I can’t come up with a good reason NOT to get it i was thinking just that, free up some room in the big safe and store mags on the door and simple shelves for ammo.

Proper drilling doesn’t diminish value. Safe is well worth what they are asking, so if you get it for less you’re that much ahead.

Operate the boltwork and open and close the safe. If the doors aren’t dragging and everything is moving smoothly you should be in good shape.

I would use that to make my primary safe more usable and enjoyable.

I agree with HRK, store bulkier, less special items inside plus any large lots of ammo, even more expensive tools. Especially the kind you might use to break into a safe. Kind of like a garage for your main weapon house.

I certainly don’t have your experience to say for sure, but operation felt “good” smooth handle and door movement with a distinct click of sorts when into position. I’ll message em to see how cheap I can get it for.

Bonus is it was so heavy it didn’t easily roll, even on the pavers they had it on, so I should be able to move it around fairly easy.

It looks similar to one I picked up 12 years back from a jewelry store that closed down. I paid more than $500 though plus had to have its moved..... twice.

Got it for $400. Now to figure if I refinish it or leave it as is, gotta clean it up regardless.

That’a a money chest. The big safe is just a fire resistant box with very little security. The little money chest is solid steel plate, probably 1” thick, on five sides. The door side is thicker.

Since it's on wheels you don't want guns in it, JMO, a thief could roll it out to the stolen truck if they have a half dozen weight lifting friends with them LOL.

OTOH, if you get attacked by zombies, then having a safe with lots of ammo and mags you could keep close moving it around might be useful...

Correct. Although the "big safe" is probably more secure than the lower tier Fort Knox I have for long guns.

I'm not too concerned about anyone rolling it out to a truck. Even if they could they'd need more than 6 friends to lift it up on a 1 1/2+ ton truck because the safe itself weighs 3,700# empty.


One thing that attracted me to buy this safe is all the little drawers. I lined them with felt which makes them ideal for the handguns I have w/o boxes.

Eah I’m not concerned with the wheels either, I live on post so this is just another level of protection.

We don’t even lock our doors.

My understanding of ammo storage and powder/primers is that you do NOT want a "tight" container to keep them in.
The components inside the safe, on there own, will not explode unless the pressure is contained in something like a safe.
I find locking file cabinets for reloading and ammo storage works fine.
