Wow. To be so clueless must take considerable effort. Avoiding school, avoiding reading. And to be so clueless about being clueless - double whammy.

Why these idiots think they have a voice and why the sheeple give them a voice is beyond me.

Let’s not forget that the US paid Mexico millions for the land conquered when Mexico lost the war. That payment was the only thing that prevented the collapse of Mexico. We could have saved the money, kept the conquered land, waited a year and annexed the remains after the Mexican government vanished.

Darthfuster- I still can’t figure out why we go win wars ( WWII being the best example) then spend massive amounts of money to stabilize the countries we defeated! Even more recently in my personal experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan we dumped tons of money into these countries with nothing to show for it ( in Iraq there were at least some educated people and a glimmer of hope we could stabilize it, but Afghanistan no way)

WWI ended on terms that Germany found unreasonably punitive and that, coupled with the economic disaster that was the Weimar Republic, made WWII all but inevitable (at least in Europe, although Germany's early success certainly encouraged Japan's colonial ambitions). No one will ever know if a thriving post-WWI Germany would have gone down the same path it ultimately did but history suggests that countries with stable governments and functioning economies tend not to start wars. It's good policy to prop up countries that have the power to start a global war.

Iraq and Afghanistan were never a threat to start a global war but we treated them like they were, which was a mistake in my opinion. We should have crippled the Taliban and Al Qaeda and left, then hit them again if they did anything that suggested they were going to bother the US or its interests (similar to the way Israel deals with Hezbollah and Hamas).

I think the US should have stayed out of WWI. If we had, WWII may not have ever happened.

I agree. Also, Iraq kept Iran in check.

Ever since our entry into WWI, the US has become way to interventionist in the affairs of other countries.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
