Not only hippies. There were those who could not afford machines.

My uncle had a small farm after he returned from POW camp in WW-2. It was his dream. His parents had escaped from Russia, where Jews were not allowed to be land owners.

During my adolescence I spent every summer and other school holidays on the farm. We milked by hand, twice a day. That was back in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

They need to require a serial number on each piece of bacon so they know for sure where it is coming from.

Didn't they require new firearms to produce a serial number on bullets when it was fired? Or did that die.

I bet there will be money to be made bootlegging the average(everywhere but Cali) grocery semi to Cali. for resale. Heck, people could run routes delivering the forbidden bacon.
