The previous record was held by Roy Disney and his boat Pyewacket. Maverick, an 80’ monohull, completed the race "in 22 hours, 24 minutes, 23 seconds, breaking Pyewacket’s record by one hour, six minutes, 11 seconds." Link There’s more in the article. I really like the part where they kept going because they are part of the Super-Mac which finishes in Port Huron. I’m sitting here looking out over Mackinac Island State Harbor with all the race boats thinking I really miss my sailboat that I had when I lived in Chicago. Oh well, my daughter and three of her friends from Florida are riding bicycles around the island and that makes me happy too.

Interesting. Looking at the track of the boats, there is a hard 90 degree east turn at the north end of Lake Michigan. Is there a buoy or marker that the boats have to go around at this point? _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. That's great! "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Yes. They turn east to go under the Mackinac Bridge. Once they have sailed under the Bridge, they are in Lake Huron. The finish line is between the Round Island Lighthouse and Mackinac Island which is northeast of the bridge. The Harbor is directly north of the finish line.

Thanks for the report. One of my bucket list items is sailing as crew on the Pt. Huron to Mackinac race Next best is sitting at the Pink Pony when the boats come in. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

I find it a bit interesting that a Racing Sailboat was named after the cat in Bell Book and Candle. I have a sneaking hunch that someone had the hots for Kim Novak. Can't blame him, she was a real looker and the movie is a bit of a classic. I've stopped counting.

I've been at the start of this race for a few years now for my side-job (TowBoat US). Always a good time on this end. I'm not into sailing, but the racing aspect of it always interested me. I don't think anyone died this year, which is good. I know there has been a few in the past few races. I know the storm that rolled trough broke a few masts, and there was a "Man Overboard", but was thankfully rescued! ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. We tried to get into the Pink Pony years ago. It was a race weekend, our kids were little, and the guy said because of the race, you had to be over 21 to get in. My daughter and her friends ate there yesterday afternoon. They’re all 16&17 so it must have been far enough past the race end festivities. By noon Monday, only the stragglers were arriving.
