Get my pies outta the oven! |
My two boys are turning into sports junkies and we let them watch as much as possible because it beats playing video games and watching crappy TV shows and movies IMO. We had on Thursday Night Football on Prime and there’s something very different about it than watching say on Fox or CBS, I can’t quite put my finger on it. The crowd noise seems very suppressed. You seem to hear a whole lot more from the players and field? There seems to be a whole lot more camera shots and angles too. It’s crazy but I’m watching it and it feels more like watching a high school football game from the stands than it does watching a pro team play on a TV. Seems more “live” to me? Has anyone else noticed this? It just seems like the whole experience is different than what I’m used to seeing.

Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
I think Amazon Prime definitely has a different production value to it. It appears they are using AI to better navigate the camera views etc. I think some of the ESPNU and ESPN+ games I watch use similar tech. They have all the video feeds and they let a AI act as the 'engineer' for the live game itself. I remember in the first years of the 'yellow line' for first downs it took a near super computer in its own tractor trailer to process the video for the live feed. Now we are doing predictive analysis and player tracking on the field in real time. its crazy. This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it. -Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Joshua Painter Played by Senator Fred Thompson

Yes, had to watch last night ~ wife is from Pittsburgh. I don't know if there is any better or difference of picture quality but you could be right. There are less limitations of streaming, technology-wise vs broad cast. On a side note, I have been complaining about the lack of 4K content especially when it comes to sports. There is no reason that every major sports broadcast shouldn't be 4K. They have the technology, they have the money, they have the audience. If anything could benefit it would be sports, make zero sense for the resistence.

I watched the Redskins game a few weeks ago. It was definitely not the same as broadcast. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I found this which may explain why it looks so much more “live” to me and not “video-ish” or “film-ish” like on other networks:

I do and I think it's different, but not bad. It hadn't occurred to me that the camera feeds are different but I'll pay more attention to that now. That new Titan's QB has some chops!

Used to watch (like millions of others) Thursday night games and really enjoyed the mid week game. Do not and will not use Amazon so no more. Don't really miss it. Screw them and their stupidity. Enjoy watching to college midweek games now. I am happy about that and did I say screw the nfl on their whole amazon and europe games. Fuck off nfl. I do not fault anyone who watches. I still watch and root for the Hawks and enjoy a good game. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Ignored facts still exist |
The Amazon stream is in 1080p as opposed to 1080i or 720p which you would get with, say an antenna from the other networks. The traditional 1080i is known to suck for live action sports with fast movement. Screen “tearing” that occur with 1080i where you see a blur because of the interleave when, say, a player is running. So maybe just the fact it's 1080p makes it seem more "live" of course, depends on your TV capability too. .

Yep, I've noticed the difference, too. It's subtle, and like PASig, I can't quite narrow it down. FAR, FAR fewer commercials on Prime than CBS, FOX, etc., which is a blessing. The crowds are indeed quieter, and the angles are not quite as good. The picture is not as sharp. I don't know tech, but I guess you would say that the Prime game isn't quite as "HD" as the other networks. Commentary on Prime is MUCH better overall. Al Michaels is a facts guy. He doesn't have to scream and shout on every play to drum up sensationalism like the other announcers. I guess it's just different production values overall for Amazon. I like it, but it is different.

That’s strange, could it be your bandwidth? Thursday night football seems way more “HD” to me than any other broadcast right now. I’m convinced they are muting the crowd out and are focusing on the audio from the field and sidelines only, it seems like you can hear way more than other network’s football games, even the grunting and the shouting and the play calling.

It's very possible. We have the newest fiber optic internet available in the area, but Prime is sometimes dicey. My modem is away from the TV, so that could play a factor. I've noticed the same thing, too, with the muted croweds and players' voices on Prime.

I have Prime so I’ve been watching all season. I noticed in comparison to watching FB on the big three networks, the picture on Amazon is so much sharper. My wife, who just tolerates my FB viewing, even commented last night that the picture was so much better.
