MelissaDallasTornado really near me in North Texas
Valley View, Sanger in North Denton/South Cooke County, all the way across into Collin County-about 50 miles. Took out a big travel plaza and RV park and marina at lake Ray Roberts on a holiday weekend. At least five dead, including very young children, initially listed as missing, with the little ones discovered dead later. Only ten or so miles north of me. Small town, rural salt of the earth folks. Very sad. I’ve seen video inside the travel plaza that was destroyed while 40 plus were sheltering there. Lots of injuries, but amazingly no fatalities there. Terrifying just watching them all there in the dark.

redstoneI worked at UNT in Denton for almost ten years. I lived in Krum just outside of Denton. This is terrifying. So tragic. Was that in Sanger?

tatortoddGlad you're OK.
A few weeks back, my relatives were in the path of a tornado. A very large, mature oak tree 110 feet from their house was hit by the tornado and fell onto their neighbor's house.

sigspecopsA tornado came within a mile of us near Melissa. Thankfully we didn't get any damage. That's as close as I've been to a tornado.

MelissaDallasSo, I couldn’t go this morning, but my sister decided to go volunteer for the clean-up effort at7:30 today. Most of the areas around Denton are still very rural and country. What a mess! About a hundred people showed up at a church to help, dressed in jeans, boots, gloves, hat, and she said she went out in her yard very early this morning Nellie to spray herself all over with insect repellent. Those of you who grew up with chiggers will understand. This was to pick up debris in pastures, etc. she was astounded at all the folks who showed up in tank tops and flip flops with little bitty kids dressed the same. Guess they were doing a “compassion” lesson. It was also too early and poorly organized to be able to help. She was home by 10:00 and they never found the address they were supposed to go to. Let the men and the folks who have big equipment get in there first.
