Rescued this fellow from the middle of Marsh Road in Clermont this morning coming back from a meeting.

He (or, to be fair, she) is about 12 inches from front to back of the shell, about 18 inches with the neck out.

Hopefully it will enjoy the lake behind my house.

Remember,if you spot a turtle crossing the road to take it across in the direction it is pointed. If you don't it will try to cross in original direction later. Smile

Also, box turtles can't swim. Don't launch them into bodies of water thinking they can.

Living in Florida, I see a lot of dead turtles on the roads. Never seen a live one though. Alligator Alley in particular seems to be a turtle massacre zone. Always makes me sad.

Nice work, Artie!

I did the same with a gopher tortoise on US-1 in Rockledge some years back. Big guy, about halfway across the road. Pulled over and picked him up (he wasn't happy about it) and carried him across the road in the direction he was headed and about another ten feet off the shoulder.

Turtles and tortoises are cool creatures. Love to see them helped when they need it.

Growing up in Central Florida, we would catch a mess of those and have some mighty fine meals featuring soft shell turtle.

Turtle was walking along our street one day. I was heading to work so I picked it up, put it on the hood of the car and dropped it off at the pond just outside of the neighborhood.

I like how we have animals roaming our neighborhood. Not the raccoons, though.

Well done! My first thought was that it was going to be about a softshell crab.

Like it when people help animals in need.
