Students in Colorado stormed out of a vigil Wednesday night for the victims of this week’s school shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch after two Democratic politicians took the stage and called for gun control, according to local news reports.

The two Democrats who spoke at the vigil were Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, who is running for president, and Rep. Jason Crow, whose congressional district includes STEM.

“STEM School students walked out of a vigil tonight after @RepJasonCrow & @SenatorBennet spoke,” tweeted Kyle Clark, an anchor with 9NEWS in Denver. “Students said their grief was being politicized. They later returned, took the mic, and some said they didn't want to be used to promote gun control.”

What did they expect? I'm sure the gathering was funded/set up by Cuoma, Sorros or some anti 2nd amendment loons.

Bravo on their actions though.

Yeah, a vigil seems like a good place to make a political statement/speech Roll Eyes Let the inevitable political statements come later. Good kids.

From the Fox link...

"The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, which helped to organize the vigil, later released a statement apologizing to the offended students."

Yet another showing of just how much liberals really care about the kids. They just can't wait to climb on top of the dead bodies and start spewing BS.

Liberal, progressive, socialist democrats just can't let a tragedy go to waste. Shame on the democrat party, but luckily people are getting wise to the democrat party nonsense.

Well it's likely they didn't want to be used like the Parkland kids. Bunch of outsiders, politicians, and political groups interviewing them; twisting their words; coaching/prepping them; and parading them for their causes.

Good on them. May they greieve in peace.

These students are a far cry from David Hogg and company!

Another interesting twist in this story - as it pertains to politics and not the shooting, per se - is the nature and leanings of the shooters. As soon as I learned more about this I was really curious how Colorado's first gay and very anti-gun governor would try to spin the story. Tough go for Jared Polis. The kids are right when they said "what about mental health instead of guns?"

I read a report today that the armed school guard actually fired on responding officers and may have accidentally shot one of the injured children. Cluster fuck...

A couple more quotes from a writeup apparently taken from the May 9, 2019 showing of Good Morning America -

quote:
The tenor of the vigil seemed to shift after some in the audience began to express frustration that the event was not solely focused on remembering the heroes and victims of the shooting.

"This can be an incredibly divisible or painful or awful time, or it can be a time when we come together," another speaker at the event told the packed gymnasium.

After a number of speeches, one student in the audience shouted "Let STEM kids speak!" and video from the event from ABC News affiliate KMGH showed students chanting "Mental Health," as they left the event and gathered in the parking lot outside the gym.

Students later re-entered the event and vented their frustration at the media and politicians.

"What happened at STEM is awful, but it's not a statistic. We can't be used for a reason for gun control. We are people, not a statement," one student said after the event.

Given all of the publicity that David Hogg's lapped up, it's interesting that the kids who spoke out weren't identified by name. I wonder if they simply didn't get a chance to ask their names, couldn't get permission to use their names, or are simply hoping this all goes away if there are fewer details for people to fix on.

Maybe there will be a generation of kids that won't blindly accept what liberal teachers and politicians are shoving down their throats in the name of education.

If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

Why do these leftists and liberals keep underestimating the intelligence of people? You would have thought that they learned something after the last election.

I believe there may be a lot more than we think. Many good kids don't speak out for fear of being attacked for saying something. The activist agenda is unfortunately a powerful influence to younger kids today. Fear of being outed and targeted for saying something they don't agree with. My daughters (24 and 22) are pretty well aware of the progressive agenda and want nothing to do with it. They both have many friends with similar views. They just shrug and don't participate because the tactics of the left are so ugly. I am hoping there is a silent majority that will be influencing politics more than the look at me activists.

Now it is disgusting that it has come to this that you can't speak your mind for fear of reprisals. But if that is the playing field today I am hopeful there are many behind the scenes that won't play their game.
