Poker, for one.

In 2016, for example, the Top 100 money earners made between $1-16.4 Million each, and that's only the above-board money in governed tournaments, invitationals, ones on TV, etc.

Even the 200th guy made more than $600,000, and the 300th guy made more than $400,000, and some of these guys play $100,000+ side games with some regularity.

Paddock isn't in that list, but it only covers the professional Poker circuit. Regular cash tables in all the casinos and other weekly/monthly games aren't factored into this list.

Between all of this, all Black Jack, all illegal/side gambling/home games, etc, there are probably quite a few folks who somehow hit $5,000,000 per year simply from cards.

But it's still a small-ish list, and his name isn't one that's normally associated with those circles, and I'm not in Vegas enough to know whether he's known in the local scene.

Occams Razor. People suck. Evil exists. Some people want to kill you and that is a really hard concept for any of us to wrap our heads around. I get wanting a "rational" motive. It's natural to want to ask the why. I mean it's almost better if the motive is terrorism because agree/disagree we can wrap our heads around the fact that person or group X is fighting do Drive some political/social change. We may not agree, we may think they are savage animals but at the end of the day we can tell ourselves they had a "reason". It's horrifying if the why is "evil/monster/insane". Horrifying because most of us cannot wrap our head around that and that's a good thing. Hell I would be in therapy if I ever had to harm a human being for completely legitimate fear for my life reasons. I've said it before and I will say it again. These things make me said and scared because monsters exist and they don't care about you are the next guy. They just want to kill.

Even more terrifying is you CANNOT protect a "random" target. Everybody knows some jackass or another has wanted to take out every world leader since ever. Hence you can guard against it. Chief of police surely on a shit list or two counter measures can be taken. Some jacktard decides to take out a local Olive Garden because he didn't get enough olives in the salad......not a god damn thing can be done and I assure you those people are out there.


That being said I would totally go see the movie many of you are crafting.

I think that I have a theory that has been completely overlooked. What if Paddock (and possible accomplices) really wanted to kill only one particular person, but killed and wounded all the others too as a cover? The authorities are so overwhelmed that they can't even conceive of such a motive. It's a brilliant yet simple plan. Now, if we can only figure out who the real intended victim is we'll be well on our way to solving this mystery...

So the plan was to kill a single person.......in a crowd of 22,000......from 400 yards away......at night.......32 stories up.......with a .223 rifle......with a slide fire stock.

Not at all! See, this "drifter" comes into town, he contacts the D.A. He's basically a ghost... no drivers license, no internet trace. Nothing but a bad-ass DD-214. He's kinda a cop, at least he used to be. He doesn't care about proof, he doesn't care about the law, he only cares about what's right....

He solves the conspiracy. Remember, no one finds Jack Reacher unless he wants to be found.
