Man, this thread is getting out of hand with speculations and BS conspiracies. Well, might as well let me put my theory in. The aliens mind controlled him. That's right.

Why do people have such a difficult time understanding there ain't no understanding crazy, and the harder you try to make sense of crazy, the crazier it makes you?

That's nuts.

Stop it.

Actually the ATF’s records are quite intact when it comes to NFA weapons, in my experience. When audited they knew exactly what was in my safe... personal or stock on hand for sale. They knew what had been transferred and to whom before I showed them my log and paperwork.

How would a sane (or practical) shooter think that he (alone) would ever have a chance to use that many weapons? I can see the sense in having backups of your primary guns, ARs for instance, but 2 or 3 would have been more than enough. To hope to use 10 or more with the every lawman for miles rapidly descending on you makes zero sense. It seems contradictory to what I would think was sound planning and reasoning.

The mention of Oswald reminds me of that wonderful line that Posner quotes in Case Closed from William Manchester: "...if you put the murdered President of the United States on one side of a scale and that wretched waif Oswald on the other side, it doesn't balance. You want to add something weightier to Oswald."

I think the same principle is at work here, aided by the ceaseless speculation of 24/7 cable news. The rational mind has trouble dealing with a seemingly ordinary guy going off the rails and executing the planned murder of dozens of people. We want there to be some other explanation, some greater significance. Unfortunately we have to deal with the fact that there are such lunatics in this world, and they often live under the radar until they die or turn their dark thoughts into reality.

I've seen two guys at the range with 12 guns and ammo for all of them, during peak hours when they got one hour to shoot. Balzé Halzé is right... there's no use trying to unravel batshitcrazy.

Something else occured to me... this guy was a pilot and owned a plane or 2. Nothing was stopping him from loading it up with fuel and that ammonia nitrate they found, and crashing right into that crowd. If anything the casualty totals mighy have been higher. The guns werent a factor here, this guy had this exact plan all layed out for a while. I give up trying to rationalize it because its just not possible. When I arrived to work today my partner was a wreck, he found early this am his sister in law was shot in the chest. I asked him why even even came to work, he said I just cant sit at home doing nothing and thinking about it. Shes going to live thank God, but that hit home for me. Seeing all those bystanders lend a hand to evacuate and treat wounded, man I tell ya there is still plenty of good left in this world and this country to offset evil bastards like that murderer.

He was worth more than $2 million, relatives said. Before retiring, he made a small fortune from real estate deals and a business that he and Eric Paddock sold off. He traveled a lot and had millions of free airline miles.

“It’s like a job for him. It’s a job where you make money,” said Eric Paddock, adding that his brother could lose $1 million and still have enough to live on. “He was at the hotel for four months one time. It was like a second home.”

He recalled one time when the entire family took over the top floor of the Atlantis at the casino’s expense.

If I want to instill fear, terror, confusion, and mayhem I think putting rounds into a crowd numbering in the tens of thousands from an elevated position over a period of time is going to do that more effectively than crashing a small GA aircraft into it.

Dude definitely crazy, has to be. Not criminally insane though I don’t think. He knew what he was doing, knew it was wrong. Too much planning required for this and not something a raving lunatic is going to pull off.

Put me in the “I want to know his motivation” camp. Even if mentally imbalanced, there was a irrational motivation that led to this. Doesn’t excuse it. But if identified, it may be used to avoid such acts in the future.

I posted this picture of me a few months ago heading into a hotel lobby, on Saturday at around noon, with a convention going on, in a large city in NC. Nobody bat an eye, and I'm far from a genius and this trip had little plannin. On my part.

this is a picture taken of me walking into a hotel in the center of Raleigh North Carolina in April, I had a 50BMG, a dozen pistols, a dozen AR style guns, suppressors, etc. It's not like the cases are discrete, and nobody said a word (other than to complement me on how nice the cases were)

High fructose corn syrup. Monosodium glutamate. Flouridated water. Splenda. Twinkies. I'm sure they are testing his precious bodily fluids right now. This is why I stick to distilled water, rainwater, or pure-grain alcohol. I'm thinking this guy thought he was General Ripper.

Yep. Would not be noticed in many places. I bet if you tried to check in NYC hotel there might be an issue.
