Flight from St Louis to Richmond - Connection in New York - Safe to Fly with Checked Gun?

h2oysFlight from St Louis to Richmond - Connection in New York - Safe to Fly with Checked Gun?
I've checked both Gary's website and the CCW app on my phone and can't find info on my flight from St. Louis MO to Richmond VA with a plane change at LaGuardia in New York.
I know CCW and guns in general are completely verboten in NY.
I also know that as long as my handgun is in checked luggage and I don't take possession of my checked luggage in NY, I should be safe.
Anyone know any more than that?
Note the reason for my one-way flight is to meet my college age daughter and drive back with her in her truck from VA to our home in MO. I hate being "naked" and especially so for such a long drive but will leave my weapon at home if I have to do so.
I wish I could have found another flight that worked but I could not avoid going through NY without a great deal of extra cost for the flight.

bobtheelfShould be and will be are sometimes very different. Have you considered shipping it to yourself instead?

SigLawThere have been too many cases of people having to take possession of their luggage (connection canceled) and landing in hot water. I would not do it.

SgtGoldIf you do go through with the flight be fore warned. Under no circumstances what so ever can or should you take possession of your luggage in NYS. It's an instant felony.

As a newyorkistan resident, suggest you avoid any contact with this state while in possession of a firearm.

honestlouShip it to yourself in Richmond. Being a handgun, it will have to be Fedex overnight, so probably a little pricey. I'm guessing you could have gotten a better flight for the extra money, but here's how to do it from the ATF's FAQ:
6. May I lawfully ship a firearm to myself in a different State?
Any person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in the care of another person in the State where
he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to
the owner “in the care of” the out-of-State resident. Upon reaching its destination, persons other than
the owner must not open the package or take possession of the firearm.

ship it FedEx if you do this,
FedEx has a shitton of 'agents' and pick up locations around town, including some walmarts,
not just Kinko's,
not sure what side of town you are in, but UPS stores are a PITA around here,
the FedEx app will show you what locations you can have it held at,
and, if for some reason you do end up having to go thru a FFL, let me know, (FFL\SOT holder)
