mutedbladeLooking for recommendations on Ft Lauderdale vacation to do's
Ok, it's out of state vacation time.
Anyhow, I'll be down there for the week of 9-16 August staying at Marriott's BeachPlace Towers. Looked at the previous thread regarding Ft Lauderdale and will try some of the food recommendations but I'm looking for other fun stuff to do to. I would like to do some fishing and am looking for a recommendation on someone that could get about 5 of us on some nice sailfish, swordfish, wahoo and the sort. Several charters show up on Tripadvisor and I am trying to see if some locals have better recommendations.
Any other fun stuff to do? Ages from 19-56 so doesn't need to be terribly kid friendly. Will have a car so can drive somewhere if necessary.
Things not to do (too touristy or just not fun)?
We're not the kind to wear masks either, so is this gonna be an issue?
Thanks everyone, looking forward to the insight.

This exactly what I would do. We went on an air boat tour of the Everglades and stopped along the way at some cool places. Deepsea fishing is also fantastic.

It is.
Broward and Miami Dade are the biggest mask Nazis in the state. Dont expect to be seated at a restaurant if you can't produce a mask for the duration of your walk from hostess to table.

jimmy123xCharter "The Rebound" sportfish out of Pompano Beach,FL. Sailfish aren't around this time of year. Swordfish are caught at night mostly on rod and reel, you can deep drop for them in 2100' of water with an electric reel for them during the day (but no sport to that, you press a button on the electric reel).
Restaurants: Rustic Inn and Cap's place (Broward county's oldest restaurant that has had everyone from Winston Churchill to Al Capone eat there (both seafood) are both excellent. Coconuts has awesome seafood and a great brunch and is a few blocks Il Mulino's is casual and has great Italian food.
Take a ride on the Jungle Queen. The water taxi is nice for the day also to ride it one way to lunch or something and ride it back. Check out the Everglades and do an airboat ride. Key West is a 4 hour drive each way, IF that strikes your fancy. You still have to wear masks in stores, walking to and from your table in a restaurant, etc.
I live 20 minutes North of there, not sure I'll be in town though when you guys are down here.

ChicagoSigManIslamorada in the Keys is a couple hours drive if that is something that interests you. Good diving, fishing, eating.

What type of activities do you like to do? I can add some more ideas. There are also some helicopter rides that are pretty reasonable that either go over the Everglades, the beach or a combination.

FLhikerLas Olas Blvd used to be a nice place to find food, coffees, pizza, ice cream, cocktails, etc., etc.,
One of our favorite resorts is located nearby, Lago Mar Resort...away from all the hustle and bustle, private beach and peace and quiet.
Good breakfast here:

DC3SBroward county has a curfew from 11 - 5 until at least August 1st.
Bring a mask, you will need it.
Restaurants that partially reopened may have gone back to take out only, check before you go.
Tom Jenkins' BBQ. Best in town.

We all love fishing, so we'll probably charter plus do a day or two of party boat fishing. Outside of that, I am pretty sure we'll be doing the arcade thing with my daughter (laser tag, go karts, games) plus she's big into paddle boarding so we may do a rental too. Air boat sounds fun. Chopper ride sounds good too depending on prices. I guess the thing about this trip is that we'd like to do things we can't readily do up here in VA (or catch different species while fishing).
Any good pier fishing?
As always, Sigforum still the best forum on the net.
