This is a neat touch that gives the bike a retro feel. It’s a water cooled engine but Suzuki put fins on the block like their air/oil cooled engines had. I bet it would look really good black with the flats/ fins edges polished.

I like the Blue one.

I love naked sport bikes, too. From day one.

I think it's from getting a start riding off road and motocross. All the fairings, windshields, saddlebags and furniture - might as well be in a car.

A 400cc? Wouldn't even bother occupying a brain cell of thought. Anything under 750cc's doesn't normally draw my attention. Not until they began producing some 4 cylinder 600cc models that could bark, did I even cock an eyebrow. Many will get and hold your attention.

But that machine...14-18,000 rpms? Even I feel the need in that.

I know it's not a top end type bike; not it's niche; but how fast will it go?

I have always wanted a CB1!

Since I have two extra gas tanks I am going to paint one black or a pearl graphite color and find extra plastics to paint black as well. I love the red plastics and tank with the red frame but red and black looks damn good too.

Yeah man. I have always wanted to have a CB-1 parked next to a GSF400 Bandit in my garage. High revving 400cc in-line fours are extremely fun. Kinda like parking a Cobra next to a Z28 in a garage. If you’re not brand loyal there is no reason not to love both.

I have quite a bit of preventive maintenance to do on the Bandit. When the seller told me to “make sure I keep it charged” I figured it probably needs a stator or a v-reg or both. (They are not expensive and Suzuki still carries both). When I got it home I confirmed my suspicion which was no big deal as I probably would replace these parts anyway as insurance. My CB-1 is doing the same thing. ....old bikes. Gotta love em.

They should keep me busy for a bit. I can’t wait to compare the Bandit to the CB-1. Aesthetically I think the Suzuki wins. The Suzuki’s motor is a detuned version of the GSXR400 engine so it should be fun. It sounds excellent, from my brief test ride I did fall in love with the loud wail of the Suzuki’s engine. The D&D slip on exhaust really lets the engine sing.

Jager, the top speed is 106 mph. Like the classic ton up bikes it will break 100 but you really gotta get on the throttle. I smoked a rider on a CBR1000RR while on my CB-1 in a very twisty section of road only to see a shiny CBR looking blur rocket past me when the road straightened out. It’ll go kinda fast but nothing insane or close to a litre bike. The ability to wring the hell out of it in a few gears and not glance at the speedo and see 135 mph is kinda cool. Probably better for your insurance rate too.

I looked up some of the reviews after I posted...estimates were 110 mph. No, it's not designed for top speeds. It's designed for 'tighter tracks'. That's the draw. I can imagine.

Ridewv, I can’t wait to compare the CB-1 to the GSF400. The Suzuki has a 47 tooth rear sprocket compared to the Cb-1’s 38 tooth sprocket. As small as the Honda’s rear sprocket is it almost makes the Suzuki look like it has a sprocket for stunting. It was one of the first major differences I noticed in the two bikes.

Nice! It's interesting that it's liquid cooled. The 600 and 1200 of that era were both detuned versions of the GSXR air-cooled mills.

You have to throw on K&N air filters to make it legit. It's in the waiver.

I always wanted a Bandit or similar when I was younger. My first bike, a used but mint EX500 was great to start on and pretty fun to ride before I bought a Suzuki RF600R...but it was a PITA to keep tuned for some reason. After that, I rode a DR350 all over the place before getting into the Harley crowd...and been there very since.

Someday I’ll have a naked bike to play with...someday...

I was looking for a DRZ400SM or a plated XR650R but when I saw the Bandit 400 I knew it was too good of a deal and too clean an example to pass up. It’s in great shape considering it’s age.



vthoky, the XS is currently sitting next to the R1. I need to get the big old Yamaha running. I love having Yamaha’s first generation R1 sitting next to Yamaha’s first superbike.

I really hope to have both the XS1100 and the BMW R100 going by the end of 2019. I’m actually selling a bike to fund all the parts I’m going to be buying soon.
