I looked some, couldn’t find the thread on the large Marlin. I made a comment that I wasn’t firmly against the ‘harvesting’ of the fish.

I was mowing yesterday, I purposely left an area un-mowed to protect a toad. I also was cautious with some toads today, cutting & mowing at a neighbors.

I harken back to a bartender that didn’t like guys grouse hunting, as she ate a chicken sandwich.

I’m in the camp, life is life, even if we don’t like components, life goes on.

How far do you go? Do you avoid ant piles? Does cutting the grass take food away from other insects and animals? Would you let mosquitos or flies bite you to keep from killing them?

I’m not knocking you, I would really like to know where the line is drawn. When I hunt, I do not kill what I or someone else will not eat. But I will kill nuisance animals that are destroying things (like feral hogs).

I once mowed over a tarantula and a scorpion ended up in the garbage disposal.

I am always on the lookout for snakes, and toads when mowing and stop immediately.

I likely mow less often than most anyone and my lawn consists of many flowering weeds. TBH I wish the grass I planted years ago was gone and it was all native weeds and grasses. Some areas only get mowed once a year, in fall.

I’ve righted many a terrapin stuck upside down.

If an animal is trespassing in my yard I don't slow down when mowing.

These are not wilderness species. Most could be considered backyard, and I'll bet most here have childhood memories connected to them. Sparing a toad from being chopped up in a mower strikes me as a worthwhile thing to do. I have no use for those who kill snakes indiscriminately.

Around the chbibc compound there is wildlife and there is nuisance wildlife. I will kill woodchucks, rabbits, chipmunks, mice and squirrels that are raiding my garden, chewing on the siding, chewing their way into the house and generally causing damage. I love those animals but they are too numerous and there is n imbalance. There are simply not enough predators (birds of prey, foxes, coyotes) but when I see predators around I am happy. I will never intentionally kill a snake, toad or frog and I can relate to avoiding harming them. Someone here said it best - you do you.

I hunt and fish, but I do not indiscriminately kill anything that can't harm me.

We have an influx of black widows this year. Yes, I kill them. But if I can shoo an wasp out of my screen rather than killing it, I will do so.

It's literally still on page 1 lol....

Wasps are the only ones that get no mercy. I'll relocate a slider to outside.

When mowing, can't say I’ve noticed any critters in my path, but wouldn't intentionally run anything over. But, i live on 1/2 acre is fairly close proximity to I45, so there isn't a lot of ground critter activity other than squirrels.

I have processed many a toad and snake through the mulching blades of my mower.

I'll give most any critter some time to get out of the way, but rattlesnakes will get broadcast out of the chute without hesitation.
