It was none other than William F. Halsey, aka “Bull” Halsey, who ranked just “slightly” above them as full admiral and commander of the Third Fleet. “Bull” was patiently waiting for his turn in the gedunk bar line and wasn’t about to tolerate this sort of arrogant selfishness.

He was my mother's godfather! Smile

Unfortunately, never met my grandfather...

You were also fucked if you drew ham and Lima beans because they tasted like ass...They were routinely referred to as Ham and Mother-fuckers.

^^^^ THIS!!! When I got those I also tossed those sons-of-bitches immediately in the trash. Truly disgusting. Mad

On the other hand, those cigarettes I got were always good for a pound cake. Big Grin

Confused Is apricot code for something else? How does it draw incoming?

Navy guy here, enlisted type.

The OOD (Officer Of The Day) took his meals with us in the enlisted chow hall.

I remember the day that my friend and I had just sat down at a mostly empty table. The OOD came down the line with his food tray and asked, "Mind if I join you guys?"

"Sure, have a seat, sir."

The pork chops were really disgusting that day. My friend stuck a paper towel under his, waited a minute or so, then picked up the towel, held it over an empty glass, and proceeded to wring out a half a cup of grease.

OOD said "Hold on a minute, I'll be right back." He had a brief conversation with the head cook. Minutes later, the pork chops were pulled from the serving line, and steaks appeared.

No code. Just apricots in a little green can. Genuine apricots. I have no idea how it worked but I'll guarantee-damn-tee I never ate any then and I'm still hesitant.

I have no idea where it came from and its kind of amusing now, half a century out of the shit, but I wasn't in an arguing mood at the time and threw them in the bush.

I did note at the time though that maybe eating apricots drew incoming but not eating apricots didn't prevent it. Cool

We called the Apricots "Fuzzy Baby Heads". I have no idea why. But I would trade my soul for canned peaches and canned pound cake.

If you're goin' through hell, keep on going.
Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.
