I bought a new toy!
I've had this a few weeks, but hadn't taken the time to share and publicly thank V-tail for his invaluable assistance in my nearly year-long search for the right airplane.

It's a 1971 V35B, aka Beechcraft Bonanza. I don't know why I wanted one, but have admired and lusted after one for almost 50 years. I'm not getting any younger, and this will almost certainly be my last airplane. This was bought with my heart; not my head.

It is in amazingly good condition for a 51 year old airplane; I'm the third owner and the person I bought it from, an AP/IA, owned it for 25 years before reluctantly agreeing to sell it to me. He completely restored the interior and windows, put a brand new engine & prop on it 500 hours ago, but it has original paint and a 15-20 year old panel. I'll paint it to suit me, and after I fly it some will decide what avionics to keep and what needs an update.

It carries 120 gallons of gas, and has a 1,410# useful load. It's reasonably fast for a single, and is supremely comfortable to fly in. Nothing fly's like a Beechcraft.

V-tail: thank you for answering my never ending list of questions and sage advice about these old birds.

That's a beautiful airplane, congratulations on acquiring it! And you sure have beautiful country there to fly over. Smile

Way to go! Not for me though. The last time I was in a plane was when I returned from a 13 month visit to Southeast Asia in 1968.

Super cool, congratulations. I like the V shape tail section, that seem unique.

If I lived in Montana I would ask for a ride.

Thank you! As I said, not getting any younger. and am going to fulfill a lifetime dream of flying my own airplane to UK and Ireland to see some old, dear friends... and take them for ride. Maybe next summer, after I learn what I've *really* bought, and begin to trust it.

Congrats!

Always been intrigued by the V-tail Bonanzas.

I'm taking my PPL checkride pretty soon and already started my instrument rating and have just started looking at looking at planes to possibly buy one.

Very nice! Same engine as I had in mine, and two notable improvements re convenience and comfort:
  1. the fresh air system for cabin ventilation is much improved. This was introduced after the S-35 (the model I had), and is a very popular retrofit for those Bonanzas that were manufactured before the factory introduced the newer system, and

  2. a larger door for the luggage compartment, again, another popular retrofit.
Yours also has the 28 volt electrical system, mine was one of the last with the 14 volt system.

I know that you're an experienced Baron pilot, but the Bonanza is a unique airplane even though its design is an ancestor to the Baron.

See if you can find an instructor in your area who has taught in the ABS (American Bonanza Society) BPPP (Bonanza Pilot Proficiency Program) and buy a few hours of his / her time to pick up some tips that will help with smooth and easy operation. If you can't find one in your area, come on down to Our Little Airport. I can make room for you in the hangar, we could do some simulator work and as much flying as you'd like, and spend some time at the gun club range if you're up for that.

One hundred and twenty gallons of 100LL. Outstanding. Should be able to get you through all the hops needed to cross the pond.
Enjoy every minute flying your V Tail!

Beautiful! Congratulations!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

That’s a great looking plane. I even like the current paint scheme. Congrats!

Just for my own knowledge what are the benefits or even faults of the V tail.

Beautiful airplane and an awesome traveling machine. Piper, Cessna, and Mooney build good airplanes too, but there is something about a Beech…

Nice airplane! Congratulations. I'm envious.

Very nice plane and very nice of V-Tail to share his time and knowledge.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
