I have replaced two rope and pulley flagpoles. Now using a 25 foot telescoping pole. Much stronger, easier to maintain. In the event of pending severe storms, just collapse and store in the garage.

My neighbor just installed a telescoping pole. It looks really good and it's easy to adjust.

I have a 30' one piece spun aluminum with a pulley. Over the past almost 20 years I never had to replace the rope which is of a marine grade. When I purchased it, the cost was approx. 3K, but it looks nice and has stood up to several hurricanes. The flags have to be replaced every couple years and I only use high quality, American made, sewn flags manufactured by Annin Flags.

It depends on how strong the wind is in your area. They wouldn't last a week in my area.

Had and reccomend Tele-pole if you opt the telescoping route. Mine was the 20'. Sold house and left it behind after moving it twice to final location.

Our is a bronze, 30', telescoping pole that I bought from Atlantic Flag Pole. This year as fall arrived, I attached a pulley to it so the flags can be taken in when the wind is blowing hard--of course out here in Wyoming, it hardly ever does.

Seriously, good flag pole and as I recall, the price wasn't too bad.

Well you didn't mention budget...

SO... if you happen to want really cheap... Big Grin

I was in Harbor Freight a few years ago and saw a 25 foot telescoping pole with a 3x5 flag on sale. With a coupon I had it came to less then 50 bucks, so on impulse I bought it. I only extended it to 20 feet for a little extra strength. Dug a hole and put a bag of Sackrete around the included ground sleeve.

At some point I guess I over tightened the slip sections and I can no longer collapse them. Not a problem, as the pole is pretty light so I simply lift it out of the ground sleeve and lay it down, propping it on the wifes yard flag holder to keep the flag off the ground and that's actually faster and easier then collapsing it was anyway. To lower the flag to half mast I move it from the upper clips to the lower set.

With the original pole and a top of pole solar light from Amazon and the bag of concrete I think I have about 100 bucks in it. I might look for something better if it breaks but so far it works fine.

Sorry I forgot budget numbers. Would like to keep under $100 for the pole. Have plenty of concrete available.

Funny thing,I've never thought about putting a flag pole up,so I started checking out kits on Amazon, and low and behold six flag pole ads appear on my FacePlace the next day.

I have an ‘uncommon’ brand of 20’ telescoping pole. I’ve had it at least 10 years, moved it once and put an LED light on top. I probably paid about $150 for it. I’d like to tear it out and put in a 25’ pole.

I have a 20' telescoping, 4X6 flag and the solar light from Titan Products. Made here in Idaho (that was important to me) and Minnesota. Unfortunately it is not going to meet your $100 budget, even with their free shipping and second flag free Christmas sale going on.

I bought from Atlantic, but the pole was actually made by Titan in Idaho. Quality product.

Another vote for a telescoping pole.
I've had this one up for five years 25' and it laughs at 50 mph winds.

I also have a 20 footer from Uncommon USA. I had a couple of swivels go bad and shipped the whole pole back to the mfr. They returned it completely rebuilt, no charge. Good product, good support and no annoying rope to listen to all night when it's windy.

If you ever plan to remove the pole from the base - like for winter storage - silicone the crap out of the part that slides into the ground mount. I about had to use a come-along to get it out the first year.

I learned this too late. When I moved my pole, I couldn't pull the pole out of the sleeve - even with my tractor bucket. I ended up digging the pole, sleeve and concrete out and taking it to the larger hole and pouring a couple of sacks of concrete around the concrete. I decorated the base with some pavers.
