Just spitballin', but I'd bet on that driver taking a little micro-nap (due to sleep apnea or something), mashing the throttle and then waking up about 1.5 seconds later when our pub-hound was in his crosshairs.

Glad you're MIL is recuperating, but your post is confusing. Are you sure you're not confusing sleep apnea (an apnea event is a temporary cessation of breathing while sleeping) with narcolepsy (a condition when a person falls asleep repeatedly during the daytime)?

My guess would be that he'd already been to a pub and was lubed up enough that he was flexible like a squirrel falling out of a tree.
