Guy Gets Smashed By A Bus And Then Walked Leisurely Into A Pub
A speeding double-decker bus in Reading, England swerved into a man and threw him into the air and onto the pavement on Saturday morning.
After skidding a good 20 feet down a sidewalk, the man, Simon Smith, responded by promptly standing up and dusting himself off. He then kept calm and walked into a pub.
In the video, the bus — which ended up with a shattered windshield — appears to have sustained more damage than Smith did.
Smith suffered some bruises, according to The Telegraph, which provided CCTV footage of the video.
Happily, Smith landed just outside The Purple Turtle, the pub he was planning to visit when the bus smashed into him.
“We’ve known Simon for about 20 years,” Purple Turtle manager Stuart McNaught said after the incident, according to The Telegraph. “He went to hospital. He’s okay. He’s a bit frail today. He’s not feeling the best. He went to hospital. The paramedics who called the ambulance took him. He’s bruised and shocked, I think. It’s absolutely crazy.”
A spokesman for the ambulance service said paramedics initially assumed Smith’s injuries were the result of getting hit by flying debris because they appeared to be so minimal.
“He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and discharged later that day, I believe,” the ambulance spokesman said, according to The Telegraph.
Smith’s wife said her husband was lucky to be alive.
The bus driver stopped the purple bus just beyond The Purple Turtle after hitting Smith.
“We are obviously shocked by the incident as well as the very graphic footage that has been shared a number of times,” a Reading Buses spokesman said, according to the British newspaper.
“We send our regrets to those affected, especially the pedestrian injured in the street and hope that he is recovering from his injuries.”
The driver has been suspended pending an investigation.
"Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying who shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, here am I, send me."

He was headed to the pub to get topped off.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

If I was someone who liked to break the law I'd be on my toes a bit.
I've heard it goes way deeper than just cameras though.

There are more than a few cameras here in the good old US of A as well. Nothing like London, but more than a few...

To a freedom loving American, living in a panopticon is dystopia.
But for anyone left of socialism, it's utopia.

Sometimes the most dangerous place in the world is between a man and his pub. Look what he did to that bus!

WTF, did that bus driver think he was doing the Isle of Man TT?
Look at the bus in the beginning of the video - going a proper bus speed, and staying on the proper side of the road.
That second bus damned near tipped over when the driver yanked the wheel to the right, and our erstwhile pubgoer had no reason to expect a vehicle would hit him from behind on that side of the road.
It almost looks like the throttle got stuck or the brakes failed on that purple bus. Or the driver was looking to get to the same pub!

Looked at the video again.
Is the timestamp right? 9:11 AM? That guy is either a shift worker or dedicated!
And man, that bus really accelerated out of the first turn. Almost like someone floored it...
Just spitballin', but I'd bet on that driver taking a little micro-nap (due to sleep apnea or something), mashing the throttle and then waking up about 1.5 seconds later when our pub-hound was in his crosshairs.
Glad that dude is alive!

I'm with furlough re bus driver suffering from sleep apnea. My mother in law was involved in a head on collision on a two lane State highway. The other driver had a sleep apnea episode, crossed thewhite line and slammed into her vehicle. She was OK, however, one of her elderly passengers died and another was seriously injured.
