Window Tint
Looking at mobile tint shops, to be able to get my car tinted before Houston hits actual triple digit temps (soon).

Two I've found that are reasonably close to my office, 1 uses Johnson Window Films & the other uses both 3M & BlackMax films.

Haven't had to do window tint in probably 15 years, and worked for & drove a Honda so we did it in house then, so I'm out of the loop on it.

Assuming comparable install prices, which would you choose?Tint brand?Johnson Window Film3MBlackMaxOther - Explain below

You may want to research if there is a limit to the level of tint in your state. Some states have very strict limits on the level of tint allowed.

The last time I looked into this seriously kept coming back to the ceramic tints with one of the leading firms being Huper Optik. Not sure if that's still a leader, it's been a decade or more.

Either Formula 1 Pinnacle or HuberOptik are my go-to tints.

Well, 1 shop that was found via a search for mobile tint shops is at location only, so they may be out.
We'll see what the other offers.

The last time I looked into it, TX only regulates the tint on the front doors, to 35% or lighter.

My local guy uses 3m ceramic.
Had a couple cars done no complaints.

I've used 3M Crystalline and Huper Optik/Autobahn tints recently. Both were excellent.

Not that this answers your question... But, the first question that I always ask a shop, that I am unfamiliar with, is if they File their edges.

LLumar ceramic here. Whichever brand you choose - I certainly suggest going ceramic. The wear and anti-glare properties are phenomenal.

P250, in 2021 I took the wifes new Passport to Tomball Tinters and got their ceramic tint put on the front windows. I have had three vehicles done there with no issues.

They have been doing tint forever.

Thanks for the tip, hoping to find a mobile shop that can do it at my office so I don't have to take time off to get it done.
Will keep this one handy in case nothing else pans out.

Or, if I c an work out logistics & we can get a couple days break in the heat, I could borrow the Indian from my FIL & just drop the car off.

I've got Johnson clear bra and window tint. The bra should be removed as it's taken a beating and needs to go, but my window tint is still perfect after nearly 10 years.

I don't know which brand I have but I went the higher end ceramic and I think it helps reduce some heat.

I have a few SIGs.

The heat rejection seems superior to other tints, even if those other tints are darker.

I'm jealous, we are 35 rears, 50 front, zero windshield. Personally I take mine to a shop I trust. High end shop for vehicle prep and mods on the rich, famous, and athletes (which there are tons of where I live). He charges reasonable prices for my Fusion or for a Lamborghini. He only uses one brand, but I trust him and his lifetime guarantee over any marketing brochures.

I would never consider a mobile guy unless I had a stack of referrals from trusted sources.

I like the 3M, I've had them on multiple vehicles without any issue.

I've also had the ceramic on the windshield at 70% and it really cuts down on the discomfort of the hot southwest summers.

I use LLumar IRX on my vehicle. 5% on the back and rear sides, 25% on the front sides and 50% on the windshield. It really makes a big difference in heat build up inside vehicle. Not legal in my state but I have not had any problems in the past 2-3 years it’s been on there.

50% on the windshield? How’s that work at night? I have to roll my side windows down to read street name signs at night.

I had 3M ceramic on my last two cars.
My convertible was 20% sides and rear and 70% windshield.
Too dark so I went with 32% sides and 70% windshield on my hatchback.

On most days I don’t even need sunglasses.

Pics:
The 20% sides and rear with 70% windshield. My driveway to street is not lit so at night it’s hard to see people walking their dogs.

Here’s the hatchback after I had the front windows and windshield done and paint corrected.

3M makes an IR ceramic these days
