A Mobile senior center and a softball complex near Gadsden have been asked by the Alabama Attorney General's Office to remove signs prohibiting guns because the signs violated the state's gun laws, an announcement said on Friday. The office received a petition on Feb. 8 concerning signs prohibiting firearms at the Connie Hudson Regional Senior Community Center in Mobile. After city officials received a redacted copy of the complaint, they promised to remove the signs from the building. No further action will be required, the office said. In Southside, which is a town located near Gadsden, a complaint was received on April 27 about signs forbidding firearms at the Southside Softball Complex. When the office investigated the allegations, the language prohibiting firearms was purposely obscured on the sign. Town officials said there isn't a gun prohibition at the complex and that they obscured the language on the sign. City officials told the AG's office that they are in the process of replacing the sign with one that doesn't say guns are prohibited. No further action was required since the town is now compliant with the law. The office investigated similar gun violation complaints in Hoover and Montgomery, but officials did not find any wrongdoing.

Yes. The AG made them take down the signs at highway rest areas too. Cannot prohibit guns on state property. RMD TL Davis: “The Second Amendment is special, not because it protects guns, but because its violation signals a government with the intention to oppress its people…” Remember: After the first one, the rest are free.

As we have become more and more successful with similar cases here in MI (through NO help of our AG's office, remember that MI folks as Schuette wants to be our next Governor) I've noticed the signs have become more creative in language. A county owned nursing home I know of has a sign No Weapons and in small print except as allowed by state law. We have gotten good case law on what Authorities cannot do. We have good law on what leasees of government owned property cannot do. Still working on our 3 state constitutional universities however. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.
