Have a family member that is mobility challenged that I am helping. They have a F150 but need to transition to a smaller awd suv. Ingress and Egress are of a major factor. Most of us step into a drivers seat. Right foot first then just slide in. They are not able to do that the same as most of us. It is more of a sit down and then swivel both legs in. So the opening between the seat and what I call the firewall needs to large enough to accommodate that. They hope to trade their F150 to cover a good chunk of the cost of the new rig. Would like to hear some thoughts about these tow or maybe something else. But it need to be in that $30k range. Thanks guy and gals.This message has been edited. I may be a little biased, but I'd say the Toyota Corolla Cross all the way. After seeing Ford Egoboost engine failures in the Escape - both online and in person - despite the newest ones being improved, I wouldn't trust an Escape as far as I could throw it. | |||

I'm a Ford guy, and I'd get the Toyota. The current generation Escape is garbage. I think the best years of the Escape was 2010-2012 with the V6. Only downside was a weak transmission. Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six | |||

One of my best friends lives far away but, we manage to catch up by phone about once a week. One topic that would constantly come up was the Escape he and his wife owned, and how much of a maintenance hog it was. The day they got rid of it was a day of celebration. | |||

We have a 2018 Escape AWD with the 2L engine. Have had zero problems with it, and my aged mother in law has to get in the same way as you describe (sit in sideways and rotate forward) Our trim level (Titanium) has electric seats for up/down as well as forward/back which make it even easier to get in and out. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand??? | |||

Maverick hybrid definitely seems a solid choice if they're coming from an F150 & want to keep some truck functionality. 2025 gets a refresh & adds AWD as an option on the hybrid [currently FWD only]. You have to get the EcoBoost to get AWD right now. I'd also at least opt for the XLT. The XL is very basic, not even having power mirrors, IIRC. The Enemy's gate is down. | |||

Purely subjective and personal, but the Corolla Cross looks like a fusion of a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica , the Predator movie character and a largemouth bass. | |||

We have similar disability issues; our Escape Titanium is a 2014 - only issue has been the sound system - mechanicals have been no problem in our eleven years! No quarter .308/.223 | |||

I think the best way to tell is to visit each dealership and have the person see which vehicle best suits their need for entering/exiting. In my opinion when it comes to reliability the Toyota will be superior to the Ford's so if reliability matters the Cross would be my choice. But like I mentioned the person needs to visit each dealership and see which vehicle they can enter and exit easily and then go from there. | |||

I've seen cases where some pretty minor hits to a Maverick have caused substantial damage or even totaled them. For anyone interested in one I would suggest watching this video looking underneath them and how they are constructed. If they are happy with the F-150, how about some drop spindles and a different wheel & tire combo. Towing would be largely unaffected and it will have more interior room than most anything they are shopping for. | |||

Sorry you couldn’t get on the site with that link. I haven’t had any problems with mine yet (at 1200 miles), but there are so many threads about a variety of fairly serious problems that apparently even Ford dealerships have little clue about how to repair. These have made me reluctant to take my Maverick on a cross-country trip. I’m using it to piss around locally until I establish a reliability baseline. It does get 44-45mpg around town. | |||
