I have been having problems with my FireFox browser for a while now. It keeps getting worse, now, day to day.
I'm thinking about switching to something else and would appreciate suggestions.

About all I use my Dell computer for is internet,just a few forums, Mail (Hotmail), Weather (NWS), News, and shopping (mostly Amazon).

What kind of problems?

I have been using Brave for 7 years and am pleased with it.

Used Chrome before that, but tried Brave for the ad blocking and never looked back.

Brave is my predominant browser. But I can’t post to SF with it, I need to switch to safari. And I keep getting these verify real user events. But it seems best for privacy and ads.

On a MS Windows 11 high end gaming PC and on a Android 17 cell phone.
Zero complaints.

Brave was the answer for me too. It works fine for me on both Win10 and my ancient Win7 box. SF works fine in Brave for me. I've run across one site that it doesn't display correctly, and for it I go to Firefox. Chrome is a great browser, if you don't mind it reporting everything you do back to Google.

I also use Brave but it has it's own issues since it did not implement Manifest V3 and stayed on V2. Supposedly they are working on it.

For Firefox, if you are willing, I would suggest you try to restore default settings and see if that corrects your issues:

Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Brave has done well for me with it's abilities, add-on options, ad blocking and compatibility with web pages.

There have been just a few that don't like it, but they only like MS Edge anyway so they don't like FF either.

Another Brave user here, very happy with it.
My coworker is a trash panda [firefox] user, so I like to give him a hard time.

I use Brave as well, I've got others for other things but brave is the primary.

I've been a Firefox user for over a decade. YouTube is the only website I have problems with it. To be fair, all of the privacy & anti-commerical add-ons I've installed don't play nice with YouTube.

My solution - I run YouTube in Chrome and Firefox for everything else. Have a split screen as I type.

On a PC I use Firefox ESR w/ AdGuard AdBlocker (with a ridiculous amount of filters turned on!), and Brave w/ No add'l extensions. I will use which ever is open/convenient at the moment however both are usually open and I do have certain things I will use either one or the other browser for. That said, I basically use Firefox ESR as my primary browser, but if the filtering/blocking from AdGuard AdBlocker breaks the website functionality, I will switch to Brave. Neither will accept third party cookies or tracking cookies, which could also be a factor. I will NOT use Google Chrome or MS Edge under ANY circumstance!

I have an iMac with Safari as a browser, which worked well for years until last week. Last week, Safari no longer will connect to my bank. I visited my bank, in person, and they suggested using a new browser.

Went to DuckDuckGo AI, which listed the 'Best Free Web Browsers of 2026,' and the browser 'Opera' popped up. Okay, but never heard of 'Opera.'

Anyone have experience with Opera as a web browser? TIA.

I was a heavy user of Opera back in the 90's as it was one of few that ran on my NeXTcube. It was as good as any of those available at the time, and better looking than most. The NeXTstep native browser, WorldWideWeb, was slow and quirky in comparison.

I believe Opera is now "owned" by a Chinese company, not a direction that I'd care to explore.

Most "alternative" browsers these days are based on the open source Chromium project managed by Google. Effectively, this means that they are differentiated mainly by what "skin" their developers choose to apply to them. I doubt that these developers spend the time and resources necessary to extract much of Google's revenue-enhancing code from their distributions.

Wikipedia has a list of web browsers page that might be enlightening. It appears that each of the most popular browsers have a stepchild that claims enhanced privacy and security.

I'll stray from the pack here. Ahong other things, I'll watch YouTube, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. on my computer/ The ads were killing me. It got really annoying when I wanted to watch a movie trailer on YouTube, and I realized, THEY ARE MAKING ME WATCH A COMMERCIAL BEFORE THEY LET ME WATCH A COMMERCIAL! The Amazon Prime Video ads also annoyed the heck out of me. One of the selling points of Prime was ad-free content.

Maybe a year ago I found Vivaldi. It has built in ad blocking, and as long as I keep it updated (which, to be fair, it does itself), the ad blocking works top notch. No YouTube ads. No Prime ads. It's at the point I don't use my TV much any more.

I have no idea what Vivaldi tracks, but it's worth it to me. It can't be more than Google does.

Vivaldi is built by the Opera guys who didn't like the Chinese move.

I have been using browsers since Netscape days and am now using Vivaldi almost exclusively. I have Brave and FireFox available at a click should I want them for some odd reason. One very welcome feature is the night mode for text, i.e., the easy, automatic, presentation of text in white on a black background of text that was originally written in black text on a bright white background. Text is far easier to read and, more importantly, noted as highly beneficial for human eyes as compared to the former which reportedly degrades vison towards blindness. The easy auto blocking of trackers or cookies and ads is also welcome. It seems quite fast on my 4 year old Dell desktop with an Intel I5 and NVME SS storage via local fiber optic inet service. Your mileage may vary.
