I bought them because they were cool. Who knows how long ago. One was one of the short shottys. It was either with a 12" or 14" barrel. Its a Mossberg. Looks like a fun gun, and might be if I ever took the wrapping off. Don't remember when I brought it home, probably 4 full years ago. Maybe more, maybe less. Of course I've never shot it, its still in the wrapper.

sigspecopsIf I won the lottery, the gun buying spigot would be turned on full blast, but as it is I don't obsess over guns anywhere near as much as I used to. I miss the good old days when you could visit gunbroker and find individuals selling some interesting guns for reasonable prices. I don't see that anymore. I remember going to gun shows and being amazed at what could be found on some rack full of old shotguns and rifles.
It's just too expensive to be a casual, bargain hunting collector anymore. It sucks, now that I have what I need, the collectibles are what appeal to me the most.

92fstechI don't know as I'm "done" buying, but it's getting a lot harder to find stuff that I want in the gun stores. I hit up three pretty decent local places this past week, and walked out with the realization that I wouldn't trade their entire inventory for what I currently own. Yes, they certainly had far more volume than I possess, but I like what I like and there just isn't much out there that meets those criteria these days.
I'm definitely well-past "needing" anything. I keep going into the shops because it's fun to look, and there's always the off chance that an interesting toy shows up in the used case for a great deal, but the few items left on my "I'd really love to have that" list are on there because they're just outright unaffordable.

I have often thought of how the used, classic gun market will be effected by us older ones starting to sell off? It seems like supply will be increasing while demand declines. Not unlike the interest in 1960's mussel cars, and before that cars from the 1940's and 50's.

ElToroI’ve Been that way for a while. When I was younger and had a lot more disposable cash I was buying anything that I kinda liked. And prices were better even 5-10 years ago. I want to get a 357 sig slide & barrel for my 320x and maybe a 365x but that’s about it. Nothing really turns my crank anymore. Maybe another AR lower or 2 to complete rifles that I have orphan uppers for. I do want to acquire or at least start the process for a 9mm and 45 supressors in 2024
Could I live with selling about half my safe ? Yes do I want to ? Not yet.

MillironThere are only a few guns I really want. But I did just pick up a HK P30 because I've always wanted one. An impulse buy at a cool shop near me.
I doubt I'll be throwing down the mad cash I used to. I have a plenty of guns and other things to spend it on.
But then, you never know. I still am jonesing for a British PCP air gun rig and that's a rabbit hole you just don't want to go down.

FlashlightboyI haven't bought a gun in a couple of years. Nothing really moves me to bust open the wallet, beyond what I already have.
These days I'm spending less but it's an accessories for the guns or things to make my range time or classes better. Nothing crazy.
I could build an AR but that would be just to do it but once built? I don't need it.
Perhaps an accurate bolt action but even then, there's no really good places in SoCal to shoot it without traveling or making a trip to the desert and I don't have the time for that.

SigSentryYep, I've been "well-heeled" with regards to firearms for some time now. I keep looking but there are few if any itches to scratch. Perhaps a 1894 357 Ruger but I can think of other places to part ways with that money. It's also a 3 day waiting period now, so 2 long trips to my favorite store. It would have to be worth my while. Plenty of "gun-smithing" projects and more shooting perhaps.

Butch 2340You can add me to the list of being done buying anything new. In fact I have been in the early stages of forming an exit strategy since I have no children to leave them to and a wife that wouldn't have a clue of the worth or how to sale them.
No regrets other than I wish I would have bought more $500 Police trade in HK P7's.

smschulzYeah, I was like that for a big stretch, then I kinda got a second wind of sorts.
Luckily I still had a bunch of unassembled parts to make more rifles, always had sufficient ammo supplies and they don't deplete much when you aren't shooting.
Did add a couple new handguns but not the same old mix I was use to ~ new to me Walther (PDP) and CZ (Shadow 2).
However, building a new caliber rifle doesn't come without pain as adding ammo, reloading supplies and the parts for the gun all add up.

reflex/deflex 64I’ve gotten a lot of itches scratched. I’ve figured out what I really like. I may find another itch, sometimes I feel a hotspot.
Mostly I find stuff grandkids should have if they pursue this hobby.

Nickelsig229I don't think I'll ever trade or sell a gun again. I offloaded some guns 10 years ago to free up funds while going through some hard times and I regret it. A couple thousand dollars didn't save me and every time I open the safe I wonder how it would have looked with those 8 or 9 guns still in it.

parabellumIf anything, guys, buy ammunition. I know I sound like a broken record on this, but...

MikeinNCTo be fair, I have wanted a Remington rolling block in either a 45-70 or some weird cartridge so my tinkering and reloading itch can be scratched.
But I don’t hunt anymore.
I’d only shoot it at the range I belong to ..
Maybe I’m in the doldrums ….

Yes, solid advice.
I just ordered more 45ACP projectiles today from the blue bullets. They won’t go bad, and it’ll keep me reloading-and shooting

I have everything I need for self-defense and then some. I've got some nifty collectibles. I'm done.
More than that- at least for me- the market has changed. New production firearms are plentiful but the days of 500 dollar near mint used SIG classics and Walther 9mm pistols no one was really paying attention to and therefore easy to obtain, are over. I feel sorry for the young guys who might have the collecting gene; they just don't know how it was.
Hell, twenty or more years ago, I bought a Browning High Power off of GunsAmerica; one of the first Browning Arms-marked FN High Powers to come into the country in 1954. As new, unfired and with the original magazine. Got it for a song. I asked the guy I bought it from how long he had had it listed. Oh, about 8 months, he said. And all because he had one tiny little shitty picture of it that most people would pass over as just another HP, but that my keen collector's eye recognized for what it was. Those days are long gone. These days, that pistol would have been pounced on by collectors and gone in two days.
I can't justify anything new. When the Walther Q4 steel frame came out a few years back, I had to have one but that's the last of it for me, I think. I bought it off of Gunbroker before they started their sales tax bullshit and bought it from a dealer who didn't charge any CC fees, but you wouldn't catch me bothering with GB these days.
Para, I couldn’t have said it any better! I too have a large collection with some very rare firearms. We used to be able to find them, and the prices were tolerable. Not so much anymore on either account.

BeanheadFor me, it ebbs and flows. Periods of accumulations and then consolidation.
Recently, with the proliferation of rebates and deals, it required an unusual amount of self control not to pick up things because they were a great deal. The Beretta rebates especially…a $250 Beretta Tomcat? Cmon man!
I stopped at a nearby pawn shop just before Christmas and found a S&W 2214 in the case. All self control went out the window and it came home with me. I have slight regret but it isn’t a gun you come across often.
Eventually, I will have to slowly pare off my collection. My daughter will get certain ones as they are near and dear to her. But my son has no interest.

fischtown7I have been taking Para's advice as my main priority, but it seems people are running short on cash because there have been some really nice deals on stuff and I am a weak/sick man.
