Shocking admission, coming from a true Trump hater.

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria says Trump was right about asylum system, ‘pains me to say’

Fareed Zakaria, the CNN anchor, on Sunday said it “pains” him to admit it, but President Trump was correct that the U.S. finds itself in a crisis with asylum system and the number of new arrivals.

The host of “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” was also critical of asylum rules that he called “vague, laxed and being gamed.” Zakaria said asylum was initially intended for a small number of people in the most extreme circumstances, not as a process of immigration in itself. He said the rules need to be “substantially tightened."

He pointed out that “many” current asylum-seekers often have “suspiciously similar stories” and employ “identical phrases.”

“Democrats have spent most of their efforts on this topic, assailing the Trump administration for its heartlessness,” he said. “Fine. But that does not address the roots of this genuine crisis. If things continue to spiral downward and America's southern border seems out of control, Trump's tough rhetoric and hard-line stance will become increasingly attractive to the public.”

A federal judge in Seattle on Tuesday blocked a Trump administration policy that would keep thousands of asylum-seekers locked up while they pursue their cases, saying the Constitution demands that such migrants have a chance to be released from custody.

The Justice Department did not immediately return an email seeking comment from the AP, but the government was expected to quickly appeal the decision.

Kudos to Fareed for recognizing reality.

Yep, right back from where they came.

While he's at it, he may want to go down the list of other opinions he holds to see if he has misjudged others.
Maybe he's thinking about jumping ship to Fox News and trying to build up his credentials, like a few others have recently.

I watch him to challenge myself to evaluate my own conservative thinking and beliefs from time to time, a personal self-test and sanity check of sorts, but every once in a while he says something really crazy that I'm not sure people pick up on perhaps because of his smooth delivery. I don't recall the topic but I remember one time he said something supporting a radical anti-American position with clear terrorist overtones, which I think he may have accidentally let slip out. Another time he said something based on a popular and easy to understand American belief that all of us take for granted as a matter of course, but in his statement it was clear he had no clue, and as a result his position on the topic was completely skewed against a common American belief. That was the other time I found him to be far from a regular American, and realized just how really un-American he was. Because of these things I don't trust him for a california munute. He's a lefty for sure, but he's not a regular stupid leftie like some of the mouth breathers on the hill, but I suspect he may actually be much worse than one might otherwise expect. It wouldn't surprise me if he walked into his studio one day rigged with explosives. It's hard to figure out what's really in his head, but I'm not confident that he's a regular american, he's definitely not that even though he pretends to be. Personally I don't like him, trust him, or care much what he thinks about America. I don't know what's really up his sleeve, but I suspect it's not good for the US of A.

If they took him on I'd have to limit my consumption of Fox News. I already can't stand the official Fox schill Juan Williams, they must have hired him just to piss off conservatives.

I think Fareed came about durring the first Gulf War to give sort of a middle eastern perspective to the viewers. Thats about the first I ever heard him on the news. I wouldn't be surprised if cnn cuts him loose for changing colors on the matter.

Zakaria is from India, Mumbai to be exact. He's a lot more considered and doesn't fall into assumptions that many journalists do. When he got the anchor gig at CNN he started tumbling down the liberal mouthpiece rabbit hole, falling in-line with the Cooper's and Blitzer's of the world. Perhaps now that he's got a few years there, he's finding he can swim against certain tides.

Yup. There is a saying involving foxes and hen houses that applies here. Unless he showed up ready to attack leftist journalism openly for all of the lying, badgering, and intentional disinformation, he can find work elsewhere in my opinion.

Don't know or care who he is, but he is correct. The system is broken. Asylum is not a method for mass immigration, it's to save/protect a limited number of people.

They arrive on US soil then look for CBP to turn themselves into, then they all repeat the same statements they've been trained to say. Knowing that between the kid they snagged along the journey for a hundred pesos and their claim of persecution they are now free to plant roots and make themselves at home.

Between Flores and judges making up laws in complete disregard to the Constitution we are fucked, period. In this recent decision, the judge ruled we can now only hold them for seven days. How did she come to the number seven for her new law she wrote? Is seven mentioned in the Constitution somewhere? Maybe the Magna Carta, or John Locke's writings? Or maybe it's just her favorite number or she got married on the seventh? I wonder how someone that rose to her position can not understand that the legislative branch is the one who writes laws.

We are completely fucked, and there is no way to unfuck it. The immigrants have been trained like a parott to say the exact lines to get into the country for a hearing then vanish. The Congress does not want stop them at border (wall) and doesn't want to send them home. It has nothing to do with compassion either or else the Democrats wouldn't have fought so hard against funding for toothbrushes and beds.
