Prayers for my Mom please - stroke
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I went through a similar experience with my Dad a few years ago. I was meeting him for lunch and realized something was wrong when he couldn't order his coffee. He had actually drove to the restaurant!! He still suffers aphasia but had come a long way until suffering another stroke two years ago.

New wrinkle. Seems she was experiencing issues with the Coumadin she was on so it was discontinued. Now they're telling the family that the discontinuation increased the stroke risk as born out by her actual events. Frown Frown They're talking about starting her on Eloquist now.

My Dad was taken off of Coumadin also, and put on Eliquis. That is a good thing as I understand it. One nurse referred to Coumadin as 'rat poison'.

I am taking Eliquis twice a day, prescribed by my Cardiologist and Primary Doctor. The only negative effects I've seen are that I bruise pretty easily and it takes a long time for them to go away.

They say she might be discharged late this afternoon. OT, PT, and an home care visiting nurse have all been lined up to work with her, assist with daily living needs, and maintain observation / evaluation post hospitalization.

Again thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Coumadin is actually warfin. It was a rat killer developed in the late 40's.

I took it after my stroke. My doc liked it because it's almost immediately revers abide by giving vitamin K. Some of the new blood thinners aren't reversible as quickly.

Sorry you and she are going thru this. Please understand aphasia is very confusing for the patient, I KNOW, and be patient.

I wish someone had given me a whiteboard when I was and after the hospital visit. I still have aphasia after being tired, just about daily. Prayers for all involved.
