Toyota 5.7 V8 mechanical question
I have a 2010 Tundra. The other day I started and noticed a chirp coming from the engine at idle. Popped the hood. Seemed like it was coming off of the belt pulley on the far side of the passenger side.
Water pump?

Thanks guys.

More than likely time for a new belt and/or belt tensioner. But crawl underneath with a flashlight and shine it on the bottom of the water pump and front of the engine. Look for a trail of red/pink, the color of the coolant.

^^ That's the only way you can get to anything anyway.

If a belt is making the noise because of misalignment (usually a worn tensioner), spraying PLAIN WATER! on it can help narrow it down. If the noise goes away temporarily, it's the belt. If it continues the same, look for a pulley. If it gets worse, it's low tension (there's that tensioner again).

How many miles?
Time for a new belt, tensioner, and idler pulley is my guess.
Take a peek at the water pump and see if you see any coolant residue.
I have found a bad water pump to be more of a metallic grind than a chirp.

I have the belt, tensioner, and idler pulley sitting in the garage waiting for a chance to put it on.
Mine chirps/squeaks in damp but not wet conditions.

Gates is the OEM supplier for those parts. RockAuto used to have the full kit for like $65 but I am not seeing it offered as a kit at the moment.

My Toyota Sienna does something similar when the AC compressor engages. It’s been doing it for years and hasn’t gotten any worse. It’s just a brief chirp/fan belt squeaking sound then it’s gone.

If you have not done the items I mentioned it is time.

Hopefully not as the changing the alternator sucks on these trucks.

I’m partial to the extra long screwdriver method. I have several screwdrivers in the length of 30-36 inch length and some Snapon pry bars with screw driver handles up to 4 feet long. This method is time tested and works extremely well.

Good luck to you.
