That's the price you pay for taking a completely useless major.
Pay your fokking bill, you created it not me.

Forgiving the debt makes it sound so compassionate.
They need to call it what it is, making the working, taxpaying folks pay someone else's bill that is too lazy, and careless with the money we loaned them in the first place.

I worked for 5 years after high school in order earn money to pay for my education. It was the best thing I ever did as it taught me responsibility before trying to get educated. I was kind of a wild card in high school and this allowed me to learn I didn't want to do nothing but grunt labor for the rest of my life.

Will Uncle Sugar pay for my house now since I didn't get a student loan?

I know some people end up actually needing loans for one reason or another, but how about parents and their kids actually encourage / strive to do well in high school so you can actually EARN MONEY with scholarships and grants that you don't have to pay back??? Novel idea...I know. Parents need to teach their kids that life and its solid foundation starts BEFORE you graduate from high school, not AFTER. Have friends, have fun, but be responsible about your school work and education. That's what we've always taught our two daughters currently in high school and they are both doing really well with grades and test scores. (one is going into her senior year)

Forgiving debt that was unwisely or carelessly accumulated only encourages the same behavior, whether it's student loans or any other debt. Young people need to think long and hard before they end up with $150,000+ in debt for an art appreciation degree and the like. There are lots of things you DON'T have to go to college for to earn a good living too, but you do have to be willing to work hard and put in the effort.

You know who else wants this debt forgiven? The educational institutions, as it then means every tax payer has subsidized private colleges as well as public ones. It's socialist "free college for everyone" in disguise. And what happens when you start giving something away? People come to expect it all the time. Nothing but a socialist wolf in sheep's clothing.

The problem is the government loaning students HUGE amounts of money for tuition, books AND living expenses.... It honestly should be only for tuition and books. If you need a loan, then you need to go to an in state university or community college and live at home IMO.

I actually believe in forgiving student loans. Under two circumstances, you die, or you are parentally disabled.

Other than that, you signed document, pay it off. I did, it took a decade (minus a few months for overpayments). Your parents did, too. Why the fuck are you so special? Just because Bernie said it should be free?

Arrrrrrrgh!!!!!!

Hahahahaha!! This reminded me of one of my brothers-in-law. He's basically been supported by his father (now dead, as my wife ,who hates the term "passed away"), one of his brothers, and his mother....
This brother in law has an ART degree from Vanderbilt....good school, bad choice of a major. His mother just offered to pay for him, his wife, and their 3 children to visit her in FL. This guy is 50, and lives in a house his (older by one year) brother owns. Roll Eyes

Ummm, I paid my student loans in full.
I also paid social security my entire life

Can we use that money to ensure I receive what I paid into all those years.
