Lots of interesting stuff here. The perps knew exactly where they wanted to go. The front door proved almost useless. It did resist a couple of hits so the resident could at least start to get his gun (no video inside so we can only assume what went on in there.) Some reinforcement would have stopped this crime before it was necessary to shoot.

When the bullet start flying so do the perps. One jumped clear off the second floor balcony to the sidewalk. One shot and in custody/hospital. Two others at large at the time the story was written.

No charges filed against the resident.

Eight seconds, five shots, (at least) one hit in the chest. Good, but more practice and training needed.

To get shots off that fast he was either carrying (the smart thing to do) or had the weapon very close.

One can criticize the hit rate but when the odds are 3 v 1 and you come out alive as the 1, it's a simple "win for the good guys".

Police: Man Shoots 3 Teens He Says Attacked Him On SEPTA Bus In Oxford Circle

By CBS3 Staff - April 16, 2020 at 5:25 am

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A man opened fire inside of a SEPTA bus claiming he was being attacked by three teenage boys, police say. The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. on the No. 58 bus at Bustleton Avenue and St. Vincent Street in Oxford Circle.

Police say the teens, ages 17, 16 and 15, were shot in the legs and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

“Preliminary information is that 24-year-old male who was being physically attacked, did pull a handgun and fire at least three shots,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Three other people on the bus and the driver were not hurt.

Police say the alleged shooter has a license to carry and is cooperating with investigators.

"Alleged shooter"? Either he shot or he didn't. I think it's pretty clear that he shot. I do understand the use of "alleged" when discussing a crime, but I think he could only be "alledged" of having committed a crime, not of being the shooter. There is a distinction.

The actual shooting isn’t on film....so who actually shot? Maybe he’s the “alleged” shooter only because there were clearly three people that entered, one more person presumably inside...and gun shots are heard on tape. Maybe the dude shot stated the occupant shot....but maybe one of his miscreant friends had the gun and shot him accidentally....it’s not on film...there is a distinction

Exactly; but even when there is no doubt, the news media has been using “allegedly” in its reports for decades, and probably because they got it wrong once (does that ever happen? Roll Eyes ) and got sued. Adding that word gives them some legal protection.

As for the fact there was only one hit by all the shots fired tells us nothing either. Shooting intruders isn’t like engaging a piece of stationary cardboard at the range. Grabbing and possibly fumbling with a gun under the most stressful situation of one’s life, possibly being shot at oneself, along with a target that’s probably moving and may not be fully visible—yeah, all we need is more practice. One hit out of five shots (assuming they were all fired by the homeowner) is 20% hit ratio, or about what many law enforcement officers achieve.

If you're referring to the thugs.....quite the norm for Philly. As for a CCW success being reported - THAT is welcome news...............

I live a couple miles from here. This happened 3 blocks from the beach in pretty nice, quiet residential area. Just goes to show how this crap can happen anywhere!

I'd encourage a bit of patience and discretion before jumping on the bandwagon for this Florida shooting. Many times shootings like this occur in a number of our, lets just say, 'sketchier' areas over drugs or any number of other illegal activities. We might want to let this play out a bit more and see where it goes.

In the reference above about the Philadelphia SEPTA bus shooting, I wonder if concealed carry on that bus is legal? It isn't in Missouri or Illinois.

Even if it's thug vs. thugs, one more thug taking the room temperature challenge is always good news.

You won't find me disputing that reality, just suggesting as Paul Harvey used to say, we might be well served to wait for "The Rest of the Story".

The last one exiting could of been first if his pants weren't down around his knees.

Which one got shot - none seem to be bothered by a hole in the chest. Small caliber?

Is it possible that, with the adrenaline dump, he didn't realize he'd been hit at first?

Yep, I had two broken ribs when a perp grabbed my gun and we go into it...I didn’t know my ribs were broken until about 30 minutes had passed and the adrenaline burned off....after that I was in severe pain.

In the 18 years I was a cop I’ve seen people shot or horribly injured that had no idea they were injured.

I was once the first officer on scene to a shooting and was talking to a guy gathering info when I saw blood on him, he had been talking for ten minutes and never knew he was shot. He was transported to the Er and died later....he wasn’t even the intended target.

People react differently to injury, each to his own. I think a lot of it is mindset...if you don’t know you are hurt you don’t react the expected/typical way.

In the Miami shooting, Platt, I think it was, was shot int the heart and continued to fight for some time with a shot that should have stopped him almost immediately, but he had the mindset to continue fighting.

definitely -- i broke my collar bone once -- not compound but completely snapped off at the base

drove myself to the hospital using the broken side (right) arm to switch gears in the manual transmission car i had at the time

after about 30 mins the pain went from 'i think somethings wrong' to excruciating

that first perp trying to exit thought he could fly away---
