A) Can a civilized, free society birth enough people to keep up with its labor demands?

It seems like this should be possible, but I don’t think it’s ever been done.

B) Civilization, and the measure of how civilized a culture/area is, is a matter of how committed the populace is to civilization and how willing the individuals are to defend themselves against barbarism.

C) It may be inverse to the level of development, after a certain point. Essentially, once the populace chooses to sacrifice the behavioral standards to obtain bodies.

D) Is this relates to “tolerance”? Does the creeping acceptance of barbarism come from the elements of society which have only superficially adopted civilization?
