I love my RTIC! Another Sigforum inspired purchase…
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Remember the dust up at Ice Station Zebra? We don’t need any more of that.

We only have a little piece of the Arctic through Alaska. Canada has much more. We need to work with them, and Greenland, to push back against the Russians.

In 1987, Soviet paratroopers drop into Alaska to sabotage the oil pipeline in retaliation against a United States grain embargo. A skirmish occurs at a pumping station, lightly defended by Col. Jake Caffey and a National Guard recon unit. A stalemate ensues while the possibility of World War III hangs in the balance. The danger escalates as the Soviet premier and the U.S. President play a cat-and-mouse game. —Herman Seifer <alagain@aol.com>
If it came to non-nuclear blows in the arctic, Russia would lose badly- if their inability to dominate in Ukraine is any indication. 2nd most powerful military in the world? I don’t think so at this point. They’re still mired in the WW2 mindset of brute force attacks with heavy losses as being acceptable.

We've been fighting in the desert for the last 30+ years. Fighting in and preparing to fight in the jungle for the 30 years prior. We're probably not at the topic of our game either, despite what a few specialized units train for.

I don't know, but the Marines have been rotating into Norway for ECW training for decades. Not sure about the other services.

We've had an infantry brigade in interior Alaska (Ft Wainwright, next to Fairbanks) for a long time, I was stationed there 1968-70. There's another brigade down in Anchorage at Ft Richardson.

i do not think using uk is a good benchmark for assessing russia's military capabilities. under estimating an enemy is very unwise.
