Never a smoker. Only cigars I had was the .75 ones we got when fishing to keep the bugs away. My son is experimenting with them and asked for a few things for xmas. Knowing nothing about it, can anyone suggest ideas on humidors, cutters, hygrometer and lighters? Will stop at a local cigar shop but wanted some info first. Thanks

It's all part of the adventure... |
A nice torch lighter, a cigar punch, a V-cutter, and a guillotine cutter. And a 12-pack of Boveda packs for a “Tupperdor” until he decides to invest in an actual humidor. I have a “coolerdor” in my closet with the bulk of my collection, and a nice humidor on my dresser. Another option for humidification are the Black Ice canisters. https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/5890052153 I'd go to Cigars Daily and order a sample pack - maybe Robusto in size - not too small - not too big. Or get the Louder with Crowder Deal > https://cigarsdaily.com/produc...er-71-cigar-sampler/

SigFan lists the required basics. The local cigar store will have the range of exquisite to cheap. Xikar is a brand that may interest you. Handling the items in the store, you will soon differentiate the "Glock" from the "Sig." ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Does he lose things? If not, get him a Xicar cutter and lighter. When they break/need sharpening, he can just send them in. Personally, I prefer soft-flame lighters - I can ask my buddy for the brand of the cheapish ($60) one I like. A small travel humidor is a nice thing. What climate is he in? In Charleston, I need a real humidor. In Miami Beach, I just keep them in their cigar boxes - if anything, they’re difficult to get dry enough with anything but a boveda pack. (I like my cigars at 65%)

This is the butane-piezoelectric lighter that I like best for lighting my pipe. It’d work for cigars, too. Currently $15 ea + shipping. All piezoelectric lighters that I know of have a very finite lifespan, but this one lasts longer than most. https://www.jetlinelighter.com/shop/pipe-pro Serious about crackers

Mike: A larger ring size gives a cooler smoke. I would forget the stuff. Use a match. A good cigar is made for the tip to fall off once it gets wet. I use a cheap straight cutter when the tip gets soggy. He might like some Macando (sp?) Prince Phillips. The madero (black) wrapper have more flavor. I like H.Upmann in a Churchill (sp?) size if you can find them. A cedar lined humidor is required to store them. Use distilled water. My favorite are Cuban Punch (punch size). Don’t go to heavy or to light. He will find his flavor. A Leather pocket carrier is a nice gift. Best of luck with your gift.

This is a good start. My wife for some reason washed my Xicar cutter in the dishwasher a while ago. (Back when I smoked cigars on the regular.) It came out more dull and totally faded and mechanism was no longer smooth. They just sent me a new one as a replacement. Good people. Thank you Very little |
Can you tell us what did he asked for, SigFan has good recommendations, a nice cutter like the Xikar is a good choice, however the type is a bit personal for some, some guys like V cuts, guillotine (straight) and some a Punch, see if he has a preference. There area plenty of Humidor options, from full furniture to desktop home made units. Xikar has a nice 20 or 40 cigar carry case, basically a pelican case with foam cutout, which he can use to take cigars with him, or you can get a smaller 10/5 cigar carry. I would look for a non Xikar carry humidor since they are basically a Pelican style case. If you don't want to spend Xikar money there are other options. If you have a nice local cigar shop stop in and see what they have, like most small retail local businesses it's good to have that relationship. https://xikar.com/ As for lighters I have a couple of them, one is a desktop lighter, it doesn't travel and is used most, so a durable unit with larger capacity is the choice. I got this for Christmas last year, $30 on Amazon, its lasted for a year easily, and I like the Gun Style grips. https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod..._title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Also have a nicer Prometheus lighter for nicer occasions such as gatherings for the purpose of cigarage and libations with friends, and an inexpensive lighter for the pocket when travelling on the motorcycle, if it falls out, no big loss. Can of Butane for the lighters, they don't work well without it. Your local shop should have this in stock, Don't get any of those Bic type, you want a clean flame jet style lighter...

This might help you and your son understand the ritual of cigar smoking... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24
