I agree w/Gibb. You may now have rice starch gumming up the vent. +1 on the water test. I have an IP Ultra and my vent looks a bit different than the one pictured in Paten's post.

I tried making rice a few times with the rice and water in a bowl set on the trivet inside the IP. I am back to simply washing the rice, adding water and cooking it on the stove - works for me.

I do, however, love the IP for cooking beans and making stock, soup & steel-cut oats.

I purchased extra sealing rings. I made chicken tortilla soup a month ago and that ring now permanently smells like cumin, so that ring is now purposed for all savory dishes I make in the IP.

A mechanical failure to seal would likely be discovered in testing prior to packaging since it’s a pressure vessel.
Do your best to rule out a problem with food residue. We never risk the lid ingesting something while laying in the sink with dirty dishes.
We field strip the lid right after use, rinse it under running water and put it in the dishwasher where it gets blasted during the washing cycle.
My best guess is to clean that buddy Within an inch of it’s life. If you have access to compressed air, blow the vents out after putting a few drops of water in the vent passages to soften an residue that might be hiding there. Stay with it. We’re pulling for ya. Smile

Meh, it’s overrated. I’ll stick with a rice cooker for the Mrs.
I’ll keep the grill hot and when I need a pressure cooker well I’ll dig this POS out of the garage.

And as far as a 1/1 ratio of rice to water... Bro, I won’t ever try to tell my asian wife how to cook rice. If you’re brave enough, I wish you well, but that’s one thing this woman has on lock. She can cook the eff out of rice, any pot or pan, no measuring cups needed. Perfect every time, with the exception of the instant pot.

1:1 ratio is for Minute Rice, not hard rice. I love my IP and as a single guy use it a lot, and make sealed leftovers. But for rice I still use my electric rice pot.
