Amazon shutting down AmazonSmile charitable program
quote:
I received an e-mail from Amazon yesterday, and I'm pretty disappointed in Amazon's decision to cancel Smile

As am I. My charity is the local animal shelter.

Best regards,

The news report I saw said Amazon's average payout to a charity was about $250. So the cost of doing that must be very high. They could have done like United Way used to do, have a limited number of charities, but that would undoubtedly have become very political.

I've been using FIRE for my Smile charity; but I give to them separately anyway.

It cost them...
$0.5% of each applicable order.

All US charities combined have received $400,026,236
with a bit more sent overseas.

~90 bucks of that were on my behalf from 352 orders.
