I am creating a little logo. Something pretty simple but am just kind of splicing clip art together. I have it mostly done but have a couple sections that are currently white in color but need them to be transparent. The white that needs to be transparent runs along a very sharp black line. I can get the white to be transparent but I loose the sharp line of the black it makes it a blurred feathered edge. Anyone good with photoshop that I could email the .png file to to try to give it a go? ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Generally, logos should be made in a vector graphics program like Illustrator rather than a raster graphic program like Photoshop. Raster graphics are what you normally think of when you think digital image - a rectangle made up of a certain number of pixels, where each pixel is one color. The problem is when you increase the size of the image, the pixels get bigger, too, and it starts to look bad. Vector graphics are different - essentially, a vector graphics file is a set of instructions for drawing a bunch of shapes in specific positions with specific colors. They never look grainy, because at whatever display size you are using them, the computer just reads the instructions for all the shapes and draws them at the correct resolution given the display size. The issue with fuzzy edges you describe MIGHT be because you're doing something wrong trying to change the transparency of the white area, but it is probably because you're working with raster graphics of insufficient resolution. It's a typical issue - in raster graphics, edges are slightly fuzzed like that at the pixel level to make them look smooth, if they are left sharp, they look unpleasantly jagged. This process is called antialiasing.

I am fairly proficient with a vector based program called Coreldraw. I’d be happy to take a look. Email in profile. I just clicked 2 buttons. Like I pointed out to the boss when emailing it back. This is one place where Gimp is better than photoshop. Gimp detects where an antialias blur is occurring and where it was a black fade to white resulting in a grey it's now black with the right partial transparency to achieve the same shade on a white background. So it's correctly antialiased when you put it on a red background, yellow, whatever.

Again, it is much appreciated. I am now playing around with it on some screen printing sites. They want a $49 embroidery setup fee for hats! Yikes. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand.
