My G8 radios coating is a total mess, and I have tried everything to clean it off--goof off, bleach (don't ask why), soap, etc. Pretty much everything without alcohol or petroleum in it, and it's still a mess. Any ideas? NRA Life Member "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Teddy Roosevelt

The Oxy-Clean type stuff works for me. Mix up a fairly weak solution, maybe a half ounce in a half gallon of very warm water. Use a paper towel or sponge, damp in the solution. Wipe on, wait a few seconds, wipe off, repeat as needed. I used this for lots of surfaces I don't want to risk. When you're done, if it looks dull and needs to be shiny, a cloth with a bit of lemon juice works well on many surfaces.

Apparently it’s a known issue with them. I had the same thing occur with my Grundig Buzz Aldrin edition. I’ve used everything from denatured alcohol to WD40 to remove the residue. Suffice it to say, it’s not a pretty as it used to be but still works great. ______________________________________________ Life is short. It’s shorter with the wrong gun…

Yes, this is a known problem with those radios. Google it - but here is one suggestion I found quickly. https://swling.com/blog/tag/ho...clean-sticky-radios/ The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

My google came up with some marine cleaner stuff, but you guys are usually pretty smart. I'll give those a try. NRA Life Member "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Teddy Roosevelt

You will never clean that mess off. Ever. The best thing to do is take some corn starch powder and rub all over the sticky surface. The corn starch will adhere and will make the surface smooth and dry as a baby's bottom. And it lasts forever. I've had to do this many fishing rod reel seats that has a rubberized coating, a camera. and a pair of binoculars. _____________ "I enter a swamp as a sacred place—a sanctum sanctorum. Those soft touch coatings are all the same stuff. Trust me on this, Windex (or the like) will take it off. If you've tried other stuff, you realize immediately that this is working. It's not magic, it takes a little rubbing. Use plenty and I think you'll see what you need. You'll need to re-apply more often than you would think and use new sections of rag. I think an old washcloth is best. Thank you all for this. I have a cheap red dot on my Chiappa/New Frontier M4-22. It's got the sticky, snotty stuff on it. I can't wait to try this. "We're all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. Birth 'til death. We travel between the eternities."

Try this stuff... https://www.walgreens.com/stor...83-a92e-39d2dab8119f It is amazing for removing any adhesive I have ever run across. We used to use it to remove the adhesive residue from our cruisers after they were de-striped. It is amazing stuff, all natural, citrus oils ONLY. No other compounds whatsoever. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Tried the Goo Gone Oven and BBQ cleaner (from jhe888's post), couldn't find the kitchen cleaner even at wally world, and it seems to have worked. It's still a tad tacky, but not the mess it was before. Now, how to keep it from happening again? NRA Life Member "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Teddy Roosevelt

Maybe do some research into sealing the rubber, to slow down or stop further oxidation. Not sure with what - urethane, epoxy sealer, etc. No idea. Where is an industrial chemist when you need one. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Coyote School of DIY Disaster

I think this is the stuff on 2 of my Microsoft Mice. It's taken me several applications of windex and rubbing alcohol to get to the smooth plastic underneath.
