Not sure that’ll fit in that well they give you got the spare. Have thought of this for my escape but never took the plunge

Sure enough everywhere I have looked they are $338 a tire!!!
I have no idea what Hankook thinks they have in these things.

It's just the one size too, most of the other sizes are $195-$220 including a slightly larger tire for the same rim size that has a higher speed rating. Confused

I just went through this with my dad. One tire blew out and we replaced all four even though they only had 19,000 miles on them. We don't even have snow, but we have heavy rain and the remaining three had less than 50% tread. He's 83 and life's too short to maximize tire life. Then there's the Corvette he just bought with brand new looking 6 year old tires. We got a price reduction for that.

Good on you for watching out for your grandparents.

As long as the overall diameter is the same the vehicle has no clue it’s a 15” vs 16”.
I have 20” wheels on my truck and my spare is an 18” but overall diameter is equal.

My only guess is the bean counter did not properly count the beans when they laid out the numbers to get the OEM GM contract so they have to charge normal people ridiculous amount per tire as they know many people will buy the tire because that is what is on it or they are kind of stuck like us with an unrepairable tire.

About 16 -18 yrs I took my Chevy 4 wheel drive pickup to a shop that specialized in drive trains. My problem was that the truck would not shift from 4 w to 2w unless I stopped and put the trans in park.
I had 2 worn tires and 2 new tires, same brand and type.
Manager had a tech take the 4 wheels/tires off his personal truck and put them on mine then told me to test it out. My truck worked just fine.
After MY wheel/tires were put back on the problem was back.
I was told that that shop would not work on all wheel drive vehicles if the tires were not the same in brand and wear. they would tell the owners to get 4 new tires and if they still had a problem to bring it back.
I went to tire shop and they measured my 2 newer tires and then matched up 2 more for my truck. problem solved

It's funny...nowadays I'd replace all four, but for years when I was growing up and as a young fella, I drove beater cars where none of the four tires matched and most of them were cheapo retreads. They worked just fine. Big Grin

Replace 2 if you can't replace 4.

You may try shopping around on SimpleTire.com. I just bought 5 tires that I couldn't find locally for my JKU Rubicon. Process was simple. Shipping was free to a local tire shop who installed them for me at a discounted price.

All in all, a good experience.

For tires on cross-country AWD type vehicles I like Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS.

Sometimes I’m known to go through the scrap pile, find the three tires from somebody else who replaced all four when one was damaged, and buy two of them for $30. Sometimes I’ve found the exact same tire with nearly identical tread depth as my remaining three. Sometimes this strategy doesn’t work and I’m the guy buying all four.

Some people replace tires that I would have considered new as a younger fella. Nowadays I typically run nicer tires because I can afford to, but man, if you could’ve seen the tires I ran on my 1975 VW Rabbit around 1986. I didn’t change those until they were trough the first belt simply because I couldn’t afford to. In those days, all my money was used to chase girls, not buy tires.

Was it an AWD vehicle? As gjgalligan said, these vehicle are more finicky than you think. You can really throw off the sensors if tires are different depths.

Black, your lucky to get 25k miles on a set of tires around here. I leliece you said your replacing all 4 which is what I would do.

I would just bite the bullet and get 4 new Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. I put them on my daily driver. What a difference they made after 2 other brands of so called AS tires on this car. Especially so in ride quality and heavy rain.

Most good tire shops around here will not replace 1 or 2 tires with some miles on them on an AWD. As you most likely know most AWD systems will not tolerate much difference in tire circumference.

I know it hurts but I would replace all four. If the system GM uses now is anything like it was when I worked there(I was a trainer in a former life) you will have clutches inside the transfer case slipping to make up for the size difference.

All wheel drive is critical to the discussion. You have a center differential that will have to compensate for different diameter tires. It will cause premature wear on the drivetrain.
Replace all 4 tires. Shop around, there has to be replacement tires that are acceptable quality and reasonable price.

Costco you didn't spec 17 or 19 inch

For 17 inch they have :
Bridgestones for as low as $170 or Michelin All Season for $212, each.

19 Inch are more

Bridgestones - out of stock

Michelins - $240 to $265 in stock,

Still less than Hancock...

Discount tire shows a shit ton of tires for that Equinox in the $100-$200 per tire range. I missed the size so I can't verify, should be able to get a full set for pretty close to the same price as two of those $338 tires.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

The size is a 235/50R19. All of the tire sites list the Hankook in this size as $338. That’s Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Simple Tire, Tire Rack, Discount Tire, and probably others.

I've only had one set of Hankook (factory originals) and I wouldn't pay $338 for four total let alone one. They were soft and wore fast, but without the benefit of traction. Worst of both worlds.

On the other hand, the Michelin's I replaced them with were worth every penny. More dry traction, more wet traction, quieter, etc. I got Discount Tire to match Costco's sale price since Discount tire is much closer to home and work.

Jeebus - must be a Z tire or better? I haven’t checked new tire prices in a while.

I’ve run a 225/40R18 front and a 295/30R18 rear, N3 spec, Z rated. All 4 corners used to be around $2k

That’s for Michelin‘s or Nitto‘s rdot track tires.

$338 for a $60 tire? Frown

I was a GM dealership parts guy for close to fifty years. It was recommended to replace all tires with the AWD systems. I’ve been out for five years so things may have changed though.

It’s an H speed rated tire. The rear Y speed rated Continental Extreme Contact Sport summer tires on my dad’s Corvette are only $310. Those Germans with their funny names.

Costco sells the Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra for that vehicle, it has a $150 rebate program in effect, Tire Rack shows them at $244, Costco shows out of stock but that's for our local area the Price should be similar as Tire rack installed.
