I just came across this and thought it was very cool. I have no idea if anything is available for U.S. market vehicles, but it certainly has me thinking.

That’s cool, too bad it’s more than likely a felony in Ohio. We can’t have hidden compartments that aren’t stock in the state

Ohio sounds like it's run by assholes.

Is it better to have it pointed toward you as you pull it out?

Better to not have it pointed at occupants of your own vehicle.

Perhaps the owner of the gun should just ensure a round is not chambered during transport and all will be fine. It's hard to transport and long gun in a way that somebody or something does not cross the muzzle, other than in a vertical rack, which is fairly uncommon outside of law enforcement vehicles.

They want them out in the open, so criminals know which vehicle to break into...

Pretty cool. But seems like one would want storage inside the cabin for accessibility and security. And what happens if you are rear ended or t-boned in the back?

Is that considered other than stock when the hollow cavity between the truck's panels are already there from the factory? It's not like anything that was stock from the factory needed to be routed out for that to fit in there. And if you're not legal to own a rifle in some state, then that's problem enough without needing a silly law on a hidden compartment.

You're good to go in Ohio:
quote:
(B) No person shall knowingly design, build, construct, or fabricate a vehicle with a hidden compartment, or modify or alter any portion of a vehicle in order to create or add a hidden compartment, with the intent to facilitate the unlawful concealment or transportation of a controlled substance.
quote:
(I) This section does not apply to a box, safe, container, or other item added to a vehicle for the purpose of securing valuables, electronics, or firearms provided that at the time of discovery the box, safe, container, or other item added to the vehicle does not contain a controlled substance or visible residue of a controlled substance.
With my luck I’d probably get hit in the rear quarter the day I put a rifle in there.

Now if machine guns popped out of those recesses with a trigger in the cab, then I'm thinking it would be useful. You know, like if your being chased or if someone follows to close.

In 1984, year not book, I read an interesting factoid.
On this date in 1966, the State of Illinois tried to block the release of Louie, Louie by The Kingsman. In the next weeks, thousands fled into Ohio.
About nine months later, the State of Illinois will concede the case, saying the First Amendment prevented blocking the release of Louie, Louie. In the following weeks, thousands fled into Ohio.
It was on a poster advertising beer, Michelob IIRC.
Does explain the state of affairs in Ohio though.

It's inhabited by more than a few too. I've been here 37 years too long.
