71 TRUCKCould someone recomend me a good can opener please
I have been through 4 or 5 can openers over the past two years.
They get to the point where they do not cut into the can deep enough to open the can completely as you go around the can.
I have even tried the kind that removes the lid from the can leaving no sharp edges.
After a few months they become worthless.
I am not buying cheap ones but I am not buying real expensive ones either because I am afraid they won't last.
So what do you recommend?
Thanks

old dinoMilitary P51 ... the larger version of the P38.
Only can opener I have found that works every time. Too many others have disappointed me.

sig77+1 on the oxo opener. Sturdy and does a good job.

Nickelsig229I've tried the generic electric can openers. I've tried the ones that clasp and turn themselves around the can. I've tried the ones that pry the lid rather then cut it.
And other then the extremely large Restaurant can openers that are bolted to a table, this one has been the only one that is easy, stress free on my older hands and has not failed me in the 10 months that I've owned it now. for 15 bucks I can get a new one once a year and be content should it not last, but I have no reason not to believe that it will.

reflex/deflex 64Buy them and replace like tires on the truck when worn out.
Wife picked one up from Pampered chef that has been serving the past few years. It has worked but not anything special about it.

chellim1Swing-A-Way.
I've been using the same one for 25 years.
Actually.... maybe not.
Are swing away can openers made in the USA?
A CLASSIC FOR 70 YEARS– Made by the same can opener manufacturer as the Swing-A-Way which is now imported. This is the ONLY manual can opener made in the USA.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

egregoreHere's a decent can opener.
Zyliss "Lock & Lift" $15.99 Sometimes it is a little difficult to initially puncture the can, but once you do, it cuts clean and smooth.

Excam_ManHad one which had two handles, in which it cut the top edge (safety cut) and then twist.
Like yours, it was good until it no longer cut through.
Bought a simular one, which only has a handle and twisting the lever activates the closing to cut and turn.
Its so much better and easier to use. Liked it so well, that I ended up buying another for a spare.

nhracecraftKuhn Rikon Auto Safety LidLifter/Can Opener
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I7GST2We've had this one for almost five years and REALLY like it! I also prefer it to the well worn OXO brand side cutting can opener that it replaced. The reversing mechanism (to disengage the cutter) and the lid lifter design(s) set the Kuhn Rikon apart from other side cutters in my IMO.
FYI - The key with a side-cutting can opener is ONLY one trip around the can! The blade lasts longer due to not running in the already cut track in the lid.

They don’t say but that’s an EZ-DUZ-IT. Before Amco moved production to China the Swing-A-Way was manufactured for them by the John J. Steuby Co. in Hazelwood, Missouri which continues to make them in the US and markets them as the EZ-DUZ-IT. I have a USA made Swing-A-Way from around ‘05 and it will likely outlive me. Fun trivia fact - it was selected by NASA for Skylab.

BGULLWe got an Ez Duz It off Amazon, after two successive Oxo pieces of crap from Walmart. I don’t hold Oxo in total disregard, but I won’t buy another Oxo can opener.
