holdemWhat hearing protection to use?
I used to shoot 15+ matches per year. Plus practice time. And I would shoot indoors too. I used foam plugs in my ears with Sordin Supreme Pros over the ear.
But I have not shot indoors in forever. And my overall shooting is limited to about once per year and it is outdoors. I was going through my gear today and my Sordin Supreme Pros seem to have died on me. I installed new batteries, but still no go.
When I got these, 12-14 years ago, there were top of the line. What is the go to nowadays?
I do have two other pairs of cheap electronic over the ear muffs. I think I paid $59 or so for them back in the day. I would like something nicer, but given how infrequently I shoot, maybe it doesn't make sense to spend $250 on another set of Sordin muffs?
I looked at the Otto's online, but I definitely do not want to drop $400+.
What else should I be looking at?

tigereye313I use foam plugs + Walker's indoors. Works fine. I did upgrade to gel pads which helps get a better seal.

SpudgunGet custom made plugs (mine are > 10 years old). Then use over the ears muffs. I have shot indoors for 30 years.

RileyFor your use, I’d go custom molded plugs. Maybe add a set of Howard Leight Impacts or ProEars non electronic muffs. Or ProEars electronics are 25% off right now.
https://proears.com/electronic...ar-comparison-chart/My molded SoundGear silicone plugs were $150 and I use them all the time for hearing protection from the yard equipment etc. No fit issues with glasses, hats or rifle stocks. I’m not a fan or believer in double hearing pro unless you’re using low cost foam plugs or over the ear brands.
In my experience, feel not measured, from best to worst:
Custom molded silicone plugs
High end passive muffs
High end custom molded electronic in the ear
High end electronic muffs
Silicone flanged plugs
Foam plugs

copaupI’ve got some significant hearing loss from my job and misspent youth. I can’t spare any more so I double up at the range with a set of baffles in ear plugs and Peltor electronic muffs over them. I love the electronic muffs. I can hear normal conversation just fine, even with the plugs in, but anything short of rifle fire is just a muffled thud. If we’d had these things 30 years ago I’d still have all my hearing.

2PAKHoldem, I use the same Sordin and foam plugs setup for indoors (and outdoors). Have for years.
The circuit board sometimes break on the Sordin. In my case, it just hissed instead of working normally. I called Sordin and then sent mine back to them for a non warranty replacement of the circuit board. It was about $200+ for the repair. I think that was 2 years ago. They've worked fine since.
If my Sordin's fail I may go with something similar to the Otto or replace with another Sordin.

SigSACYour unit is probably analog - the newer ones have digital processing.
That said, there is a company down in Florida that performs repairs - I used them on one set I had a few years ago.
