I personally don’t like the AIO concept on a PC. Have built computers for at least 20 years.

She wants what she wants and there will be no arguing this. Just want to know if there are a few things i should be aware of. These machines cost around $1k down here. Max res is 1920x1080 and they are all white. Not sure if capacity is only 256SSD or 1TB spinner.

HP doesn’t have them in stock so i must go through a third party. An old trick to screw you when you need it repaired. No warranty…..

Haven’t found detailed specs yet, would like to know if it has built in BT, speakers, mic and camera.

Any 1st person experiand review is welcome. Thanks.

You are wise, grasshopper!

Do you have a model number in mind, picking one out of the offered models the HP All-in-One 24-cr0055m PC just to check specs on line, it shows Audio Features as Dual 2W Speakers, so it should have built in audio..

^^^^^ I used to fix computers and keep the network running at her workplace. She wouldn’t let me near her PC. Figured something else to do instead Wink

She still doesn’t want me around her computer 20 years later.

I've installed both HP and Dell AIO's ~ mostly for end-users rather than in a business.
They have the "footprint" advantage and the pricing isn't much more than standard desktops.
Performance is comparable to mid to lower desktops.
However, if you need a lot of modifications or add-in devices you are limited.
Get the latest INTEL chipset, INTEL CPUY I5 or I7 if you can, NVMe drive.
Most all AIO's even all of them will have WiFi and BT built in.
Touch Screen is a plus.
Again the biggest advantage is foot print and quite capable for normal use.
I replaced an AIO for a client that was an HP Intel I5 Gen4 for a newer Dell I7 larger screen recently.
She didn't want the old computer so I took it and refurbed it and stuck it in my garage for a media playback device (mostly). Smile

HP Argentina is completely out of stock.
What they had to offer was Rysen based.

I see remaining Celeron models at resellers, they come with W10 Home. That tells me they aren’t very recent units.

If we go stupid silly in prices, i could play $2k for an intel i7 that may or may not get through customs in 35+ days. Awful gamble.

A store near me opened a few days ago and they are using these new HP for billing. They units were just one day old so they couldn’t tell yet if they liked them or not. Noticed a dongle at the back and assume it’s the one for the Kb/mouse combo. That means one port less, right from the start.
My whife uses 2USB printers.

Thank you for your useful tips Steve.

We have a large format HP printer at work, cost us 3000 dollars in 2013. I recently found out that HP built this expensive printer with a chip that will shut it off 10 years after it was first used.

Need I say that we will NOT EVER purchase another product made by HP. If I ever see an announcement that HP has gone bankrupt I will cheer that day for a full year.

I've stopped counting.

Nicky,
I'm afraid I can offer any constructive comments here.

The specs are terrible for the prices. Everything integrated means if something craps out or needs to be upgraded you have a pile of junk. Celeron is terrible performance.

I would try to talk her out of it..

At this point in my life it’s not worth the effort.

Yes, the specs are shitty as possible. Looks like rhey made a special effort to come up with such crappy compromises.

Been swapping parts in and out of desktops since 1986. AIO are the Devil’s work IMO. PCs for Dummies written all over them.

Most AIO are mobile chipsets. Starting with the AMD Ryzen 5000 series, I can confidently say that the mobile AMD chipset is no slouch. We have hundreds of users on 5000, 6000, and even some 7000 series procs/chipsets. They are quick, and don’t suffer from heat issues that older AMD mobile getups use to have.

I have users running everything from SaaS-based apps, to multiple Virtual Machine sandboxes, and provided you lay out enough RAM (although not as Ram-needy as ARM), you can do a LOT with current AMD Zen hardware.

YMMV, but it might be worth checking out the AMD system.

Is she after the aesthetic of these machines or the "functionality" of an all in one?

It would be better to buy some sort of VESA mountable, ultra small form factor PC and a monitor with decent internal speakers. At least then you can replace the computer and probably more easily deal with upgrading or replacing some components.

Buy a quality monitor.

Buy a mini pc with good specs.

Use double-stick tape and attach it to the monitor.

Both of you end up happy.

Looks like DaBigBR beat me to it.

One of these might work.

She WANTS the HP AIO and there’s no reasoning with her in this particular subject. No win, no get compromises, i’m afraid.

Covered the small footprint HP ProDesk box years ago with a mini i5 8GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. The AIO comes with 4GB non expandable. The mini is gathering dust, unused in some drawer somewhere. I was disappointed to find out the models available down here came with no built in wifi or BT. Fixed the that with dongles but lost two USB ports in the process.

While not keeping current, i have highest respect for the AMD CPU. Intel Celeron has been crap in my book since the day one.

Which AIO are you looking at?
I find it surprising the 4GB mem limit.
Yes the Celeron is anemic - I3, I5, I7 > not so much.
All depends on the generation from Intel.

We have so many import /foreign currency restrictions that you can only pick vanilla as your favorit flavor. The machines come with 4GB, usually in the cheapest configuration possible as in two sticks, all slots full. You can’t upgrade before purchasing and if you do afterwards then your warranty is void. Could never find more RAM for the ProDesk Mini mentioned above or the wifi/bt internal card.

The HP AIO currently available have the Rysen 3 or 5 chip.

Just wrote to one dealer because the published specs had contradicting terms in multiple places in the same add. Wired/wireless mouse/kb combo, 256 SSD or 256 SSD + 1TB drive, speakers/no speakers and something else i can’t remember.

Most definitely not the specs you would gladly buy today with a smile.

Adding or changing out memory modules would never affect warranty.
Just keep the old memory and put back in before the claim if they are picky.
I've never seen an AIO without wifi but you can always inert an USB wifi adaptor easily, and many devices like keyboard/mouse include a BT module.
Only an internal wifi would also provide BT.

Steve, i have a small collection of wifi USB dongles. Started trying to find the right chipset that would work with my Qnap NAS.

Also tried upgrading my Mini HP ProDesk but couldn’t find a 16GB stick and buying two 8GB sticks was way too expensive to make sense..

Sounds unreasonable but our market is so small and limited …

I've had nothing but bad luck with all-in-one PC's. 1 HP and 2 Dell's. Never again.
