For what it's worth...that Monte White is a wonderful breakfast cigar with coffee.

Ronin I've never done a breakfast cigar but I think I'll make that Monte White my first one. But I'll let it sit and class up my humidor for a little while...

Question for you gurus...

I was having a smoke with a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago and chose a MonteCristo from the humidor; either a Double Corona or a #2...can't remember which. Anyway, it seemed to smoke "hot" throughout the entire time. Is that normal for a MonteCristo or is my palette just geared toward other flavors in a cigar or did something go wrong in my humidor? I smoke La Gloria Cubana Gloriosos and I would consider that a MUCH more robust/stronger/full-bodied smoke than a MC #2 or Double Corona, but it doesn't seem to smoke "hot".

Completely agree. To add, I sometimes think people smoke their cigars too fast, which in turns brings too much heat down the stick. A good rule of thumb is to leave about 30 seconds between puffs.

Yes...understood that smaller ring gauges will smoke hotter and I sometimes don't puff for a minute. I just don't remember Monte's smoking that hot in the past. I also smoke Sancho Panza Cervantes Double Maduros (much smaller ring) and it doesn't start smoking hot until I'm about 3/4+ through and get close to the head. Maybe my "tastes" are changing??

I see you are in Houston, were you smoking outside? When it's hot and humid outside 80/80 the weather will play havoc with cigars, smoking hot, unusual burn, not staying lit, tar build up, bitter taste, I experienced those smoking in the summer.

I also think Cubans for some reason seem to react worse than Nicaraguans but that might just be my palate.

This just few over, I'm sitting on the beach, I think it's time for a rum and coke and a cigar.

Thanks Gator. YES...smoking on the north veranda, aka, the driveway, and in the middle of this blasted Houston heat. I won't cast aspersions on my Monte's yet, then...I'll wait until cooler weather and hopefully they'll be a little more tame.

I smoke less in our humid summers, or I try to get to a nice lounge and smoke inside. If you have a punch, use it instead of a cutter. Smaller hole = less heat, about halfway through I end cutting most smokes that I punched due to tar build up, but the punch does seem to help alot when its hot and humid out.

I agree with Jay about the cut size and have gotten much better about cutting the least amount possible...actually taking the time to try to find the cap and cutting only that.

After a day on the beach, this hits the spot. 5 days at the beach brought 10 cigars I may be short. There is a great store nearby I want to check out.

While adding my new additions to my box I found a Drew Estate Liga 9 in there. OK then.

Wow, what a smooth stick. Even in this South Texas heat it was not hot until the last inch. Smooth from the first draw and consistent all the way down. Very nice.

I have a No 9 waiting at home to try when I get back from this trip. And a couple of T52s to try as well. I'm going to have to start taking off work to make time for cigars...
