iRobot Roomba j7+ and Pet Hair
For those who don't know what a Roomba is, this is a robotic sweeper that automatically sweeps floors. The newer version, the j7+, also empties its own bin into a central station as needed. It also programs a map after running several times through the house, and this most recent model can discern the difference between a sock left on the floor vs a big pile o' steaming poo (that the previous iteration would've run through and spread through the house). It learns not to try to vacuum the curtains every day, where you leave your phone charging cord hanging on the floor, etc.

My son in law got himself one of these for his 2 dogs hair and said it was great, so I purchased one after much deliberation with my (super thrifty) wife. We have a 80 something pound Golden Retriever and she sheds like a mangy goat, so we thought what the heck....

To make a long story short, my wife loved it so much that she insisted we buy a 2nd one, so now we have 2 of them-one for each side of the house. We went from vacuuming and sweeping a dozen times a day to just letting the machines do their thing, and we rarely even have to spot sweep now.

Bottom line: (Ferris Beuller quote inbound) If you have the means, I highly recommend you picking one up.

We have one, older model, have to empty it after it runs, but yes it's excellent, and picks up all the hair and dust bunnies especially under furniture, we have it programmed to run three times a week.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Roborock S8 Ultra. Sweeps and mops, empties the dirty water then refills itself with clean water and empties the dust bin, even cleans up the mop and dries it after every use. I have a Borzoi and he has ass hair literally a foot long. I'm tired of sweeping.

Plan to eventually replace our older model 960 with that or similar. 960 is great but doesn't self empty, making it a timing exercise to make sure it's not running when away for day and fills up.

Not a poo story, but worse-ish. A couple weeks ago I saw a lizard run under cabinet near our bedroom, knew immediately that no matter how friendly and helpful they are, him walking across Deniseair at 0217 was going end badly. Grabbed a sticky mouse/snake/critter pad, peeled off top and tossed it under there, to go back and retrieve in a day or two.

FF a week or so when my wife calls to ask if I put a trap under there. Yertle (our Roomba's name) had sent a message his wheel was stuck. She finally found him under there, wheel locked DOWN on that glue trap along with the lizard. Roomba had spread that glue around a bit under and just in front of cabinet.

That shit is an unholy mess to clean up. I'd rather deal with dog shit. You know what the only thing is that will break it loose? Vegetable oil. Even that is a challenge, and THEN you have to deal with the oil cleanup. The floor took a while to clean. Yertle, OTOH, almost got replaced. In the end disassembled all of the underside, cleaned, replaced the rollers, wheel treads, steer-y wheel, spinning brush, etc.

What a fucking mess. Wife was a trooper and patient throughout, another one of those times when I realize how lucky I am to not be married to someone looking for something to be pissed about because brother, this was that something!

We have an S7, so we have to replenish the water & change the mop pads like peasants.
That said, it's been great, once we got it set up properly. Have it map the whole house before running it & split all the rooms into individual zones.

I've got one, not sure of the model, but it does empty itself. We just had an issue with it and had to replace the cleaning head ($150). It was amazing the amount of dog hair and general dirt that accumilated while it was out of service. We had gotten so used to it, we forgot to go back to the old routine of constantly sweeping / vacumming.

I have 2 Pugs and a Roomba is a must have.

If it is not emptied every day it won't run. Yes the boys shed that much.

Curious how much the J7 costs ?

Thanks for the rx. I have had roombas for years for birds and dogs, they wear out after a few years-will now look at this version for purchase!

Got mine on sale on Amazon for around $599, but they are around $650 right now. Lot of money, but I would do it again tomorrow.

I’m actually thinking about the s7 as well. Especially when it was on sale last week. I like the camera on the 7.

Ours doesn't have a camera, just the mapping radar & live maps.
I think the S7+ & up might have the camera

We've had robot vacuums for probably the last x5 years or so. We've always had x2 dogs. As the OP said... It'll change your relationship with dog hair.

We have two dachshunds that leave their brown glitter everywhere. Roomba does a great job picking it up.

Welcome to the club! I'm still rocking a Roomba I bought 10 years ago and bought a 2nd one for the same reason. I run both once a day and never have to sweep.
