Raised Hands Surround Us Three Nails To Protect Us |
My kids classroom has one of these things in it. Had no idea what it was just thought it was a current generation lava lamp decoration kind of thing. Anyone have one and feel it lives up to the health aspects they claim? ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Wife has a couple. She has asthma and swears it helps her breath better. She has researched it quite a bit on line and is convinced it helps. Her asthma doctor had told her about a place in Poland where asthmatic patients go down into an old salt mine and stay for up to 30 days. Suppose to helped a lot of people. Better Than I Deserve! |
I had a girl at work that kept one on her desk and swore by it. Said it solved all kinds of problems for her and said she had one by her bed. Said she had used it for years. I got one for my wife and we put it in our room and it is nothing more than a lamp with no magical properties whatsoever. Total snake oil. ____________________________ NRA Benefactor Life Member GOA Life Member Arizona Citizens Defense League Life Member

So, then, it may be a placebo effect which people are experiencing. The healing power of simply believing has its limits, but has been shown to aid in healing and managing chronic illness.

My wife just bought one, looks cool. Other than its look, I do not know anything about them. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, Annual Member GOA, MGO Annual Member

We have been down in a couple of those salt mines in Europe. A lot of people go down there as part of a treatment regimen. We went down to see the mines themselves. Great to see. Can't comment on the health factor of the salt mines. Regarding the salt lamp, and other such, placebo effects, as Para pointed out can cause some strange results. Just for the hell of it |
No idea on the salt lamp thing but I will say this. Over the years I have done a decent amount of diving in salt water. These trip also include spending time near the ocean. On some trips, I might spend over 20 hours underwater in the ocean. Except for one trip where I picked up some bug, I always feel good. The salt water is always good for my skin. How does this relate to a salt lamp I have no idea. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Girl in the office next to mine had one. She told it was salt so i licked it and agreed it was salt. Then i brought my lunch over and asked if i could borrow the salt. She keeps her door closed now. I do think the lamp has the ability to absorb some bacteria, but not enough to "purify" a room. I think they are hogwash. My Mom believes in them very much and gave me one so I do have it in my bedroom, but I do not think or feel it has done anything. On the other hand, Himalayan pink sea salt is supposed to contain a lot of minerals and nutrients so I use it in cooking instead of regular salt. NRA Benefactor Life Member

Salt attracts moisture, the lamp will vaporizer the moisture which puts more moisture in the air. So what you have is a source of moisture that moisture helps thin secretions in the sinus and lungs, which may help asthma. A $15 vaporizer will do the same thing a lot more efficiently. That's why folks with asthma get relief when they take a bath or shower.

I dunno... I walked past one of those funny pink salt lamps a couple years ago, and I totally haven't died from Ebola, Zika, SARS, or Swine Flu since then. So I think there's something to it.

I'm still laughing and LS1 GTO thank you... I needed a good chuckle! As for the lamp... I'm a retired ol' salt so I doubt it would impact me. Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192
