Hamden106Grab bars and more for the elderly
I have geezer grab bars in the shower. And I'm only 74. 75 next week.
Mother is 99 and using walker and wheelchair.

bald1Outfitted my new rollator with a velcro strap (yellow) to secure the unit in a folded position. And an old Lowe's Alpine insulated bottle bag to augment the small plastic cup holder that came with the unit.
And folded, ready to place in the car.
Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club!

drill sgtAlso I see that you have a multi purpose walking stick / attitude adjuster / personal protection device to be available if and when required for any reason be it foreseen or emergency ... Even though I really do not need such a device full time it is nice to have a personal stash be they store bought or formed by mother nature. ..................... drill sgt.

patwI have installed a few next to the commode for my mother and wife, due to her numerous leg surgeries and they do help. We also have a few suction cup types for the shower, which I use myself at times.

BGULLWe added one horizontal bar along the interior wall of our combo shower/tub and a vertical bar at end where we step in and out. At this point in our lives, fears about falling when getting in and out of the tub are greatest; for me being old, overweight and non agile; my wife-both knees and one hip replaced accounts for her wariness ( she popped her hip out early in post surgery recovery at home ).
I’m now thinking about adding grab bars in the half bath toilet I use regularly. Conveniently the lower wall portion is wainscoting with solid wood, which will make for an easier installation.

229DAKDon't forget toilets. The two we have upstairs are original to the 60 y/o house and somewhat low. The new Gerber one downstairs is taller and easier to get up from.

downtownvA word about grab bars that is VERY important. If your hand/arm can slip between the wall and the bar, throw them out! ADA Bars will not permit this. a fall with your arm sliding through this gap will guarantee you a compound fracture in the event of a fall, as your arm slides down in the gap. These are "towel bars", not safety Grab bars.

ZSMICHAELHow is the PT going? I had severe vestibular issues and they could not find the reason. As you might guess dizziness leads to falls. I have had twice per week therapy and am 100 percent better. Hope you are still going to PT.
