Who's paying for Texas lawmakers to hide in DC?

Skins2881Who's paying for Texas lawmakers to hide in DC?
Are Texans paying for them to abdicate their sworn duties or are they coming out of pocket to flee the state and vacation in DC?
Here's a link to one of many stories on the subject.

12131Abbott said they're going to be arrested, when they return. I don't think I'm going to hold my breath for that.

Not arrested as in common usage. They will be escorted to the House/Senate to do their duties.

radiomanFunny, the Republicans walked out of the Oregon Legislative session this year (and last year).
All you heard were the D's crying and moaning that the R's needed to come back and do their job. How the R's were being paid to do a job they were not there for. But, wait, now D's have done the same thing.
Hypocrites.
Oh, the because the R's got a huge payoff to come back, those of us who put them there get screwed by more gun control. Thanks for nothing.

harvey976gI was reading on KXAN this morning and I believe that everything was paid through fundraising by the Democratic caucus. I believe they had over $100k raised to ride this out.

tatortoddThe Texas Douchecrats did it in 2003 and 2011 too. Both times fleeing ultimately failed and the legislation passed.

goose5This isn't the first time Texas Dems have pulled this. States that have this problem should make a law that if you abandon your seat in this fashion to avoid a vote the governor gets to replace that member permanently. Wonder if that would pass constitutional muster.

btgoannaWhat I don't understand is that they do this to avoid a caucus, so the legislation can't get voted on.
Why doesn't it simply take their self imposed absence as an Automatic NO vote , and if the Republicans have enough votes ,then the legislation get passed ,despite their childish antics.

hrcjonThe idea of a quorum seems perfectly reasonable to me. To protect against the couple of crazies calling a session in the middle of the night and going off the reservation. This is the downside of that. As I understand Texas law they can't really avoid the vote ultimately as they can call sessions repeatedly. In some States you might be able to run out the clock.
But the solution to this is ultimately to elect enough of the party in charge that its a non issue.

The Oregon R's were just taking a page from the D's playbook. It's a tactic the D's have been using in various state legislatures for years, and were first to do so, but the R's don't do this as often as the D's.
People complain about how the R's get rolled all the time because they play by the rules and the D's don't. When the R's do this it's showing the goose that the gander can do the same. If the D's would stop this childishness, the R's would too.

Problem is the MSM will condemn R's for breaking decorum while praising the D's for being so brave for fighting back against evil R's. The media fully and unconditionally supports the D's. How do you combat that?

exactly the problem. During the R walkout in Oregon, every D you could think of in the state was talking about how important work won't get funded because the R's walked out. Children would be hurt the most, etc. All a big show.

Problem is the R's care about what the MSM says. They need to stop trying to please the people who hate them and start trying to please the people who voted them into office.

radiomandang... simply amazing...
Somehow the D's see the walkout as justified this time But when the R's did it in Oregon, they were "not doing their jobs"
I am without words.
