That's too bad. I was in love with this song - and her - circa 1978.

I saw her the first time on the Andy Williams show, and was smitten. She was singing to me. May your journey be as sweet as your voice. Thanks for your gentle spirit. "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

I didn’t think she was that old. RIP "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." 73 is way too young but 30 years of life and living after her initial cancer diagnosis at age 42 isn't too shabby an outcome. I wasn't into her music at all as an adolescent into my teens and I got pretty sick of Grease thanks to my kid sister's obsession with the movie and soundtrack. But she sure was beautiful in those years. Looking/listening back, I've come to like and appreciate her earlier soft pop rather than the "sexier" 80s stuff. Still causes a smirk that once upon a time the mainstream music industry had the gall to classify her early music as country. RIP. -MG

As a '70s kid and '80s teen, Olivia was my 2nd celebrity crush ever. (#1 goes to Kristy McNichol.) I went with my parents to see Grease and was also like, "Wow! Who's that cute blonde?!" Being only 10 years old, my adolescence hadn't kicked in yet, so I liked the prissy beginning Sandy and not the slutty ending Sandy. However, when Olivia came out with Physical in '81, I was well on my way through puberty and completely under her spell to this day. She will be missed.

Staring back from the abyss |
I remember when my sister bought this album, and thinking, "I could stare at that face for the rest of my life". She was a beautiful woman and from all accounts a good person. Beautiful voice as well. Not quite the caliber of Karen Carpenter, but pretty close. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.
