That's some seriously dense wood.

What's the first impressions trapper? Your daughter like it or have you taken it over already?

First, I really apologize I don’t have pictures, but for whatever reason, I seem to have lost my guitar stands. I have new ones arriving tomorrow and will post pics then.

It’s a 2021, but it looks shiny and new. I’ve always liked the style of the 28s. There’s enough detail that you can see skilled craftsman built the guitar, but it’s not over the top. One nice thing about this one is that it doesn’t seem to have the aging toner Martin has used on this model in the past. On some of the older ones I’ve seen, the aging toner makes the guitar a really unnatural shade of orange.

It’s definitely smaller than a dreadnought and fits my daughter’s stature well. She has no trouble reaching the first fret. It’s hard to believe 1/16” of an inch spread across 6 strings at the nut makes that much difference, but my fingers are missing the strings ever so slightly. Same with the string spacing towards the bridge, I’m not getting the pick where the strings are. Neither of these will be a problem for my daughter. It’s setup different than my D-16, the action is lower and the strings don’t require nearly as much effort to fret. On the other hand, I can dig into the strings of my D-15 without buzzing. The new guitar doesn’t like that. I wouldn’t call it a tone cannon, it’s not loud.

What it does like is a light to medium touch. I attempted Wonderful Tonight and besides the fact I need practice after not playing in a decade, the guitar sounds wonderful. It has a lot of sustain. I was playing it in the family room, got up, walked it to my daughter’s room, and sound was still going.

My daughter loves it. It’s fairly clear she doesn’t want to share; I’ll get over it. Big Grin
