I'm having a rough month. Long story short...I'm on the hunt for a CAPS fuel pump (probably the whole thing), P/N:563367RX. We troubleshoot a problem down (ended up hiring help to access a heavy truck computer scan and interrogate tool). to the CAPS fuel distributor cap, but when we removed the old one to replace the gear pump module behind it had sheared couplings on both sides. None of the machine shops will overhaul them in Alaska, and I can't find the correct one in stock anywhere (1999 8.3L Cummins ISC 45973978). THUS, I'm looking at the whole CAPS.

I've found the correct one (6442) in stock at Thoroughbred Diesel and Dales Super Store. Their pricing is pretty far apart, and both are going to require a phone call on Monday to arrange the shipping. Of course....Alaska. We're stuck in a park outside Talkeetna (yay).

QUESTION FOR THE FORUM GURUS:

Any reason NOT to do business with either of those companies? For the record, Cummins doesn't have any, we called and looked online there first. I got the fuel distributor cap assembly from First Truck, I've got that headed back minus the re-stocking fee, but they don't have the proper CAPS for my engine. Any other suggestions? Google is not super helpful, I'm really looking for someone who's used a company that they can recommend. I won't act like pricing doesn't matter, but at $5,000 or so, it matters a little. Getting the correct part in a timely fashion is more important than the cost of the parts.

As always I appreciate the collective wisdom here. Thanks in advance.

BTW, in case anyone is wondering....the tow was $5,700. PLUS the ripped my front air dam and tweaked my bumper dragging it off the lowboy trailer. So we have that to deal with also.

Thoroughbred Diesel is good to go. I use them for customer trucks where I can’t source parts locally/reasonably priced. I can’t personally speak on Dales, but I haven’t heard anything negative. Thoroughbred has overnighted parts and helped make sure the order left the warehouse ASAP when I had an out of town guy broken down at my shop. I wish I could be of more help, but I’m in SE PA.

Rainmaker: Thank you. They're a bit more expensive than the other source, but distance in shipping might make a bit of a difference. First Truck got parts out in under 12 hours, and had them in Anchorage (I paid for next day air) from Asheville, NC in under 24 hours. Then they sat at the warehouse for 5 more days before the UPS driver would actually pickup and deliver them. I called every day and tried to drive (4 hours) to Anchorage and get them...but they warned me that would take longer. UPS...ugh. At least UPS is refunding the shipping for that package. The 20% restocking fee covered the return shipping, which I was grateful for.

ORC: Thank you. I appreciate the thoughts of support. Starlink is enabling us to keep working. We had a rough go with a litigation client this week (canceled a $15,000 check after they paid us with it to begin work on a case). Scummiest lawyer. Felony 2 check fraud. Caused some scrambling over the holiday weekend. We were located up in this area to do the work, so it was stress on top of stress over the weekend and most of this week. Especially after the tow company ripped the front of our coach.

I’ve used Thoroughbred Diesel when I used to drive my Powerstrokes. That’s been a few years but I never had an issue with them.
