Knowing is Half the Battle

Central Iowa does trick or treating on "Beggars Night", the night before Halloween since 1938 or so, it's dumb but we embrace it. It was a rare occurrence of not being freezing temps or rain or snow or tornadoes last night so I bought 2 Sam's Club 200pc bags but then Hyvee had full size Hershey bars on sale, 6 packs for $2, so I bought a dozen of those also and the first 72 visitors were going to get The Big Bar treatment. Wife stayed at home and I took out the Mini Scubas. Each kid brought home 3 or so pounds and we still had a whole bucket of candy AND another unopened bag and it was 7:45 and things were winding down. I didn't want all this candy so I put our leftovers on the front porch with a sign that said "You win. Take it all!!" Some polite teenagers got to it 20mins later, they were just going to grab one and then saw the sign. Seeing the Ring camera there, they made sure to show the evidence of the note. I heard the commotion but was getting the kids to bed. Enjoy the video, but I don't want this to "go viral" or whatever.

What a bunch of good, polite kids! It's nice to see this - I know you don't want it to go viral, but if it did, its because this video shows how most kids these days really are - good - something that is not publicized much any more.

Love how polite hey were. Teenagers here who T&T are obnoxious.

That's great. Heard at the end:
"Can I have a piece?"
"Nope."

Score!

We did something similar a few years back and had a lot of candy to hand out, but family stopped by and we all decided to head out for dinner, so waited for the next kid to come to the door, and just gave the entire thing to her.

It was 8:05 or 8:10, when official hours are 6-8 as mandated by the Minister of Official Beggars Night Pre-Halloween Redundancy Department Coalition. Some parents put bowls on the front porch with a sign that says "please take 1" or "take 2", etc so the parents can go out with their kids or the doorbell doesn't bother their pets. There hadn't been anybody stopping by for 20mins and I thought for sure that bowl was going to stay out there and full all night. They were doing a valuable civic service.
